Digital camera Review: SONY DVD player-recorder
Summary: 4 Stars

Haven't really used it much yet, but if it does what it says, I'll be happy as a clam on the beach.

Digital camera Review: SONY STILL MAKES THE BEST!
Summary: 4 Stars

Without a doubt, this is one of the best DVD/VCR recorders I have come across. I have had absolutely no problems with it, both recording and playback. I received it from the shipper as scheduled, on time, and in perfect condition. Easily set up, the unit worked as depicted in the instruction booklet. Another SONY great!

Digital camera Review: Satisfied with product
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this DVD recorder in Dec. 2008. Waited until now to do the review because I wanted to test all functions over time. We use this recorder with a regular TV, hooked directly to cable (no boxes, no high-def). The main purpose of buying the unit was to be able to play VHS, play DVD, record TV programs, copy VHS to DVD, copy DVD to DVD, and copy video from camcorders to DVD.
I remember a few odd things happening when first hooking up and testing record features. Like trying to record a program and it recorded a blank screen. We were always able to figure out what we did wrong, or what the device needed. My advice is to do this testing right away and get familiar with all the features so that you don't screw up on recording something important.
I like to record onto DVD +R and +RW. Using the +RW when dubbing our home videos from VHS allowed me to go onto the DVD menu and title the segments so we could easily see what was contained on each disc. I have always been able to play back any DVD we created on any other player in the house.
We use the AV in jacks on the front of the unit to connect our portable DVD player to copy discs from it. We use these same jacks to connect our camcorder to burn discs directly from the hard drive memory. We can view photos from the camcorder this way also.
We pick up new digital channels, but I haven't messed with them very much because I am not happy with the quality of digital broadcasting.
So, after a year of use, I am pleased with this product. Yes, there has been a frustration here and there, but you'll figure it out! We're not techie wizzes and we did.

Digital camera Review: Sony Combo
Summary: 4 Stars

This combo unit has much better menu and tuner operation than the Panasonic we returned. The output to TV on HDMI is only 480. The Panasonic has a much better picture (720) and upconverted even our SAT to 720. The buttons on the remote are pretty small. I wish this unit had the picture quality of the Panasonic! I could not stand the tuner operation of the similar Panasonic unit. VHS record quality is not great. Have not recorded to disk yet.

Digital camera Review: Sony Combo DVD VCR
Summary: 5 Stars

We actually ordered this device not just to copy old VHS tapes to DVD but to actually copy DVDs to VHS tape. I make DVDs of vacations and family gatherings. The older members of the family do not have DVD players so I wanted to make VHS copies of these DVDs. The device works great and we are very happy with the selection and price performance.
