Digital camera reviews of Sony RDR-VXD655 VHS DVD Recorder Combo with Built In HD TunerDigital camera Review: Good, solid product Summary: 4 Stars
I would recommend this recorder. It makes great quality recordings of HD over-the-air broadcasts. I wish the HDMI cable had been included.
Digital camera Review: Great DVD recorder for general use Summary: 4 Stars
This DVD recorder does what you expect. Good quality recording to DVD from outside source or VHS tapes. Typical un-friendly user menus for these units, but somewhat easier to understand than other brands. Can be left on to start timed recording instead of the typical, "must be off" status of other brands. Will turn off after recording is finished, don't know why this is different from earlier Sony models.
Digital camera Review: Great Digital DVD-VCR Combo Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this unit as a replacement for our analog Sony DVD-VCR combo, and all of its functions have worked flawlessly. We receive over-the-air digital TV signals, and the automatic set-up took only a few minutes. With our 30-year-old rooftop antenna, the tuner picks up not only the local stations but also those from a city 45 miles away. I've played and recorded both DVDs (using DVD+RW) and VHS tapes, and everything has worked without a hitch. The picture quality, using our Sony HD TV and an HDMI connection, is great. The menus and manual are easy to understand. Amazon delivered the unit promptly and in perfect condition.

Sony RDR-VXD655 VHS DVD Recorder Combo with Built In HD Tuner
This is an excellent choice for near hi def quality picture and sound, especially for those who want to avoid the additional fees and constraits of TIVO, a cable company hi def recorder or a high cost stand alone hi def recorded if one can currently find one.
I have it linked to my SONY Bravia XBR 720 LCD Set. I can record my favorite shows and view them on my own schedule once again. My old standard VCR recordings when linked to the my Bravia did not even come close in quality. I could not watch the recordings they were so poor. I have recorded and watched on DVD so far, and I like the option to play my VHS tapes.
The set was relatively easy to connect, and it was helpful that I had already set up my Bravia with my home theater ("with a little help from my friends" at SONY).
Digital camera Review: Hard to use and unreliable Summary: 1 Stars
The audio stop working while under warrenty which was repaird with the price of postage. I bought and excellent Magnavox while waitibg for the repairs. The Sony was difficult to use, directions left a lot to be desired, no comparison to the Magnavox. When the repaired unit was returned I placed in a secondary hardily use role. The audio again went out on a machine that rarely used. A piece of junk.
