Digital camera reviews of Sony RM-VL600 8-Device Universal Learning Remote

Digital camera Review: Awesome remote
Summary: 5 Stars

I personally don't think a remote should cost over $25 or so. However, I could not find a cheaper universal that could actually control my Yamaha receiver. So, finally, I got this remote, with a learning function. Again, the preset codes didn't control the receiver, but the remote was able to learn all the commands on every remote in my house. It even learned the codes for the TV-tuner I use in my MythTV DVR. This is a wonderful remote, with all kinds of cool features.

The learning function means that you can put commands for multiple devices. For example, the TV device on mine controls the power on the TV, the chanels and menus on the cable box, and the volume and muting on the receiver. Another device controls the volume on the bedroom TV, and the menus and playback on the bedroom DVD player.

I was expecting to have to teach this remote how to interact with my devices because I didn't see my television brand on the code list (Westinghouse)... but it worked with both the Westinghouse 42" LCD and my Sony amp right out of the box with no configuration at all. Hell yes!

Digital camera Review: Awesome remote for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I run a mythtv setup in my house. I originally bought a Windows MCE remote to control it. The MCE remote was inexpensive and worked great, except it didn't have any programmable keys so the TV volume and power couldn't be controlled with it. I ordered this remote for the explicit purpose of copying my existing remote key for key. It works wonderfully for this and has no issues with the MCE remote or receiver. I was amazed that this remote can learn so many keys. Every button on it seems to be programmable...and I haven't even tried using any of the macro functions!

It would be nice if had a few more buttons, but isn't that true of most remotes.

Digital camera Review: Awesome remote!
Summary: 5 Stars

What a solid buy! It arrived on time, it does exactly what it was supposed to! I joke to my wife that we now have a 'remote control graveyard' because the learning function now controls, my cable box, my dvd, my stereo (for which i couldn't find any codes anywhere!), my projector (flawless control, something I did not expect at all!), my fan (it had an IR remote and works like a charm!), my eHome Media Center, it just never says no! If you have any old remote control lying around this will scan and do the command just as well! Definitely would have paid more than what I paid for it. Good Stuff

Digital camera Review: Awesome remote-wish that I had bought one sooner!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the easiest remote control that I have ever programmed. It replaced 6 remotes that I was using and programming it is effortless.

The list of codes was missing two devices that I needed to use a remote to operate, but the "learning" function makes it very easy and effective to program to replace these remotes. It is really a smooth operation to program each key on the Sony to control each key from the old remote. You can set any key to control any function--very easily!

It also has "macro" operation buttons which you can program to execute several keystrokes at a time-like turn on the TV, switch the video signal, turn on the DVD, and finally turn on the sound system to watch a movie--all in one keystroke!! Fantastic gizmo.

Now, all I have to do is have one unit to control everything and it works flawlessly. My only regret is that I did not get one sooner!

Amazon shipped lightning fast!! Ordered on Thursday afternoon and it arrived before noon on Friday--all with free shipping. I love Amazon!
