Digital camera reviews of Sony SLV-D380P DVD/VCR Tunerless Progressive Scan DVD/VHS Combo Player

Digital camera Review: Does What It Says
Summary: 4 Stars

This DVD/VCR player does what it says it will. It plays DVDs and VCR tapes. It does not record, but it is only needed to play shows while I'm on the treadmill.

Digital camera Review: Does not record TV w/o cable box!
Summary: 1 Stars

Just bought this unit and was warned that it was "tunerless." This was not a problem, but I have basic cable without a cable box and therefore can't record programs. Sony has gone downhill with this product. The Toshiba unit I am replacing was tunerless, but still allowed for pass through of the cable for recording. I will most likely return this product.

Digital camera Review: Does the job well.

Ease of use - Easy, hook up and go. One thing I like is that the remote control uses a switch rather than logic buttoms so you know from across the room whether you are trying to control a vcr or dvd. The operations of the rest of the remote controls could be clearer. A big problem I have is that the remote has a LOT of plain buttons that all look they same. In a dim room I usually hand to to somebody else to fast-forward, etc.
Features - exactly what is advertised and expected. No frills.
Picture Quality - Haven't used it on a discriminating system but it looks ok to me.
Sound Quality - Haven't used it on a discriminating system but it sounds ok to me.
I use my machines as basic players. Seems like I remember the manual on this one being a little vague.
One thing I like is that the remote control uses a switch rather than logic buttoms so you know from across the room whether you are trying to control a vcr or dvd. I will probably buy another one.
Bottom line is I think I'll buy another one.

Digital camera Review: Don"t buy refurbished unit
Summary: 1 Stars

Maybe it was just my luck but I purchased a refurbished unit that was DOA. Sony did replace with another unit that started having problems after 3 1/2 month (over the 90 day warranty period). The problem was that I had barely used the unit (maybe 15 hour use of the VHS). The tape recording had white dots running across the entire picture.

A new unit might be OK. But, Sony apparently doesn't do a very good job of refurbishing the units it puts back out for sale.

Digital camera Review: Donald's Sony Review
Summary: 5 Stars

The Sony Combo DVD/VCR came out of the box and was installed with ease. The setup for the DVD/VCR was easy to follow and worked fine. This is not the 1st DVD/VCR owned, but was one of the easiest to install.

Our RCA DVD/VCR lasted for only 3 years. I would hope that the Sony will out perform the RCA. Who knows in this day and time of electronics what quality you will fine.

The Sony was packeged as well as any electronic equipment I have ordered off of the internet. It was wrapped in a great deal of bubble-wrap. It would have been hard to have damaged the product without intentially trying to damage the product.

I have only used it briefly at this point, but the performance is fine.Sony SLV-D380P DVD/VCR Tunerless Progressive Scan DVD/VHS Combo Player
