Digital camera reviews of Sony SRF-M37V FM/AM/Weather/TV Radio Walkman with 25 Memory PresetsDigital camera Review: Best AM player? Summary: 5 Stars
Compare to other FM/AM players, this is the best. The only reason I brought this radio is to listen to AM radio(also for Emergency Alerts), and this is THE best that I could find. Small, and use only 1 AAA battery that last for a good 12 hour.
If you couldn't get a good reception, you could do any of the following:
1. Switch between DX and Local.
2. Use another headphone (don't use the small kind).
3. Move away/turn off interferences, i.e., computer, TV, video game (basically anything electronic).
I could easily find 5 good AM and FM stations and set it to memory for easy access(love this feature!) The TV is okay but the Weather is hopeless.
Overall, a great product. Review from an owner since 2006.
Digital camera Review: Best Walkman type radio yet!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very impressive performer. I received mine as a birthday gift from my brother a few weeks ago and was initially somewhat underwhelmed. I have tried many different variations of "Walkman" type radios over the years and have yet to find one that performed up to my expectations so when I received this I was prepared for another letdown. WRONG!! This thing is hot on all bands with better than average fidelity through the supplied headphones which by the way, I prefer to earbuds which I HATE. There's no place to put them when not in use and they always get tangled up if you try to wad them in your pocket so the conventional headphones work best for me.(I just put them over my neck when not in use). I had been using a Sangean DT-200V as my carrying radio but this Sony has replaced it. The Sony is much smaller and outperforms it to boot. The clock display is a nice feature and I love the presets, so easy to use and program. Plus the local/dx switch actually works,a great aid on FM in congested areas such as Columbus,Ohio. My main interest in radio is AM dx'ing and sports broadcasts(Baseball). No it won't pull them in like my Grundig S-350 or Zenith Transoceanic but it will get the job done better than anything else in it's class, even the Sangean DT-200V which some claim has the best AM reception of any "pocket radio". If your interest in radios are similar to mine,do yourself a favor and get one of these tiny wonders. You won't be dissapointed.
Digital camera Review: Best or Tied for First at This Price Point Summary: 5 Stars
As I write this review the Sony SFR is 28.52 on Amazon (I bought mine on Amazon recently for 30 and I've seen it as high as 39). It is a digital radio with over-the-ear headphones (on the cheap side) and manual volume control. The AM is A grade. The FM is B minus as the NPR stations here in LA, 89.3 and 89.9, suffer a little static. Overall build quality is high. The SFR has a clip for my pants. Having said all this, I'm giving the SFR to my wife and I'm keeping my other pocket radio, the Sangean DT 180, which I purchased on Amazon for about 36 dollars. Currently, Amazon is charging 38.51 for it. For me, but not everyone, the Sangean is slightly better when compared to the Sony SFR. Here's the breakdown. AM reception is a tie. FM goes to the Sangean, which gets worse reception than the Sony for 89.3 but no static at all for 89.9. Regarding FM, all pocket radios seem rather weak in this regard since there is no telescopic antenna. The Sangean has no clip but is smaller than the Sony so it can fit inside my pocket. The Sangean doesn't have manual tuning. It has digital toggle feature with numerical increments. I like this feature. The Sangean has ear-canal headphones, which can be dangerous to hearing so be careful. All in all, both radios are almost equal with slight variations in features, which will become a matter of preference. For me, I prefer the Sangean. But currently it is 10 dollars more than the Sony, and I'm not sure it's worth that much more. Either way, you're getting an apex pocket digital radio.
Digital camera Review: Best performing radio of this size I have ever owned Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this radio for about 3 years, and the first one finally succumbed to the frequent drops (it survived several falls from my bicycle at 15 MPH). The internal AM antenna finally dislodged permanently after I fixed it a few times
The AM reception is amazing. At home near Philadelphia, I can easily pick up all New York stations, and can regularly hear Chicago, Cleveland and Cincinnati stations.
The weather band function also works well.
The FM sound quality is OK. I have seen some criticism of this radio in other reviews, but the expectations seem to be unrealistic. It clearly serves its purpose as a small sports radio.
I also saw some criticism of the inadvertent button pushing while exercising - the unit has a lock switch this disables all controls except the volume control - this works very well.
I would highly recommend this radio, and as proof, I just bought a replacement.
Digital camera Review: Best value in this price range. Summary: 5 Stars
If you are looking for a small portable radio that is quality constructed and whose most important feature is digital tuning, you can do no better than the Sony M37V.I looked at many small radios before deciding to purchase this unit. Sangean radios were attractive and stylish. If I wanted to spend $70 on a portable radio, they would have been my first choice. Panasonic also makes a radio that is about $5 less than this one. I liked the unobtrusive color, bigger headphones and Sony's superior quality reputation enough to shell out a few extra bucks. The sound is good with the provided headphones. I think it would be much better with a real pair such as Sennheiser manufactures. I think it is silly to buy a small portable radio for $30.00 and expect to have an Onkyo or Bose type sonic experience no matter what you spend on headphones. I have had good reception on this unit indoors, and excellent reception outdoors. This unit may not be your best choice for use in the home or office, based on the experiences other reviewers have had. If you are going to use it for outdoor activites, I can't give it a better reccomendation.
