Digital camera reviews of Sony SRF-M37W Walkman Digital Tuning Weather/FM/AM Stereo Radio (Black)Digital camera Review: Excellant product! Summary: 5 Stars
I read the reviews on this product before purchase. It appeared to be one of the best in its category. I was looking for a small AM-radio that I would wear while working. I'm in and out of buildings all day long. The reception is great in most situations. The size is small enough to slip into your pocket. The station lock is a great feature but still allows adjustment of the volumne.
Digital camera Review: Excellent Radio Poor Headset Summary: 4 Stars
I use this radio at a fitness center to hear TV audio via FM frequency broadcast. Sound quality is very clear and large buttons make it easy to change presets while physically active. Hold button prevents accidentally changing settings when radio is in use or stored with power off. On the down side, after 12 hours of use the headset ear foam mesh covers have both torn. I plan to replace them with better quality ear buds that will also be more practicle for use when working out.
Digital camera Review: Excellent for what is used for Summary: 4 Stars
I had a previous Sony sports style AM/FM radio but the battery door would no longer stay closed and I had to hold it shut with electrical tape. Plus the reception was very spotty indoors and I would have to turn in a certain direction to get any reception. Sony is still a leader in electronics even though they have to get down and dirty with price in order to compete. I use this for working out in the gym to listen to my favorite sports talk station and occassional music. FM reception is not a problem for most small radios but the quality of an AM signal is the true test. This model is not perfect but it does the job very well indoors and out. It is a must to take to ball games. The broadcast has become an inportant element to know all the back stories and keeping in touch with every situation on the field as it happens. The ear pieces are not really that good, so it is best to store these or give them away and go with any number of ear buds from a music player. With bass boost and an FM signal, the music quality is passable. It seems pretty durable so far and all the button are easy to learn so you can change stations and fuction without looking after a little practice. All in all, this is great unit on the strength of its clear reception and portabily. Phones and music players are getting radio features but there are many times you don't want to risk loosing an expensive accessory and certainly times when just don't want a phone around.
Digital camera Review: Excellent travel radio Summary: 5 Stars
For what it is, this is a superb little radio. I commute almost two hours each way and prefer radio to pre-chosen downloading players. I think it's because I don't want to know what I'm going to listen to and, anyway, my choices change from day to day.
A while back, my daughter loaned me an older version of this radio and I was amazed at how well it worked. It was a huge improvement on the large, CD-size walkman radio I used to have - both in reception quality and length of time it held station signals. When I needed to get my own, I thought it might be time to move into the mp3 player world but I wasn't happy with anything I tried. For one thing, it was difficult to find one that was small and played an adequate number of stations without ridiculous amounts of static. For another, few mp3 players have radios and those few that do, such as the Memorex which is beautiful to look at but not comfortable to use, don't have acceptable reception or workability.
But the Sony Walkman, small and inexpensive as it is, receives and holds signals well and from far enough away that you get through an entire symphony, for example. It has a "local" switch that allows you to hone in on signals without excessive static. The tuner is by increment, not by signal, so you can select a station you know will be available or that you want to listen to even with an imperfect signal (unlike some of the others). In addition, and very pleasantly, the presets are *real* presets in that they stick until you change them, not until you turn off the unit as some do (which is fiendishly annoying). Plus, there are two FM bands so you actually have 10 FM and 5 AM presets.
The sound isn't perfect but in the middle of train or bus you're not going to hear perfect sound anyway. It has a fairly large clip if you want to wear it on your shorts or exercise clothes and it only requires one AAA battery. I'm using JVC earplugs which add a bit of antenna strength to the unit but its in-the-box headphones are good, too - I just prefer earplugs.
All in all, it's terrific.
Digital camera Review: FM Reception Summary: 3 Stars
I had expected far better FM / AM reception than I am actually getting. Even when I run outdoors with it, reception fades in and out
