Digital camera reviews of Sony STR-DH700 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver (Black)Digital camera Review: Great Reasonably-Priced Receiver Summary: 4 Stars
After thoroughly researching this receiver compared to several others in a similar price range, I am pleased with my decision to go with this Sony STR-DH700.
The 3-HDMI inputs are great. I currently have it hooked up to an HD DirecTV box and PS3, outputting into a Sharp Aquos TV. I also am using the component input for a Wii gaming system. It was important for me to have full HDMI ability (not just a through-put for video and having to use a separate cable to set-up audio). I am using Yamaha NS-SP1800BL speakers (pretty low-end) set up as a 5.1 system, and for a non-audiofile, it sounds great in my medium sized living room.
I had read several reviews about this receiver being difficult to set up. If you briefly read through the set-up instructions and know how to set up surround sound, you shouldn't have any issues. I had only the front speakers set up initially and later used the menu to add the back two speakers and sub.
All in all - great receiver for an excellent price.
Digital camera Review: Great Receiver, but has shortcomings. Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this receiver a while back to replace my 8 year old Sony, which still works great, but had no HDMI inputs. I originally wanted the DH-800, but couldn't afford it at the time. I was very happy with the audio this reciever produced, but it did not have enough HDMI inputs for all of my electronics components. This receiver only has four banana plugs inputs, versus the 800, which has all of them. The remote control is also hard to use with extremely small buttons. I have since bought the DH-800, a major upgrade in my opinion. I still recommend this receiver to those that are budget conscience and aren't using that many devices.
Digital camera Review: Great Value Surround Sound Summary: 5 Stars
I had a Yamaha Surround Sound Receiver that lasted about 3 years. It died with power up related issue.
I found this Sony receiver and it was comparable in price and had more features and the set up worked well with the mike that is included to set the speaker levels in the listening area.
The performance has been good and the sound is good for a unit in this price range.
I use a 5.1 setup, but this unit is capable of up to 7.1 and has many settings that I have not yet fully tried. I do recommend this and other Sony products. I use a Sony Handycam, Sony DVR, Sony high speed DVD/CD Burner and a 60 inch Sony HD TV. All products work well together.
Digital camera Review: Great deal for the $ Summary: 4 Stars
Overall very pleased with the equipment. I hooked it up to a Sony 55" TV and a Sony Blue Ray. For some reason, sound is not produced on previews for either Blue Ray or DVD. Once the movie starts it's great. I spent a good bit of time with technical support and they could not diagnose the problem. They told me to take it to a local authorized Sony repair shop for diagnosis/repair. Brand new item...I thought they could have offered to replace it. Generally very pleased with Sony products and their customer support.
Digital camera Review: Great entry level HD Home Theater Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this AVR for my first home theater. Fit my budget VERY nicely! This receiver powers each of my Sony speakers with 105 watts of clean power. I can enjoy lossless HD sound via HDMI from my blu-ray player. Dolby TrueHD & DTS MA decoding is done by my blu-ray player, so it wasn't necessary for my AVR. This helps a guy same some cash. Listening to music is also very nice when using the AFD feature. Setup was extremely easy with the auto-calibration feature. Another great feature is the Sony link. When I pop a disc in my blu-ray player, it turns on the receiver & sets it to the BD setting...no buttons to push! I am very very happy with this purchase, and Amazon had the best price out there! Highly recommended.
