Digital camera reviews of Sony STRDG720 7.1 Audio Video Receiver - BlackDigital camera Review: AWSOME SYSTEM, but speakers suck Summary: 4 Stars
I'll be honest, this wasn't my first choice for a reciever. I had a few bad experiences with Sonys in the past I eneded up buying it on clearance at a after christmas day sale and got it for a steal. When it was all set and done, I got it for less than $200 brand new. I just could not pass that up. At first I was very dissapointed with it. I didn't think it was preforming the way it shoud. Then I got an idea. I installed the speakers that were in perfect condition from my old fried out 7.1 systems and oh man, It sounded awsome. The speakers that came with the system were mostly made of metal (at least the speaker housing) which gave this horrible ringing, clanking, and jingling (that is the best way i can describe it) sound when ever the treble or bass got to high, not to mention that you could only turn the system up to about 1/4-1/3 max volume before the sound starts to distort.(No where near loud enough) Enough about the crappy stock speakers. The auto calibration on it made it so easy to set it up and if you run the auto cal a few times each year you will always have amazing sound. The menu is a little confusing to work at first. It really feels like you have to scroll threw it backwards, not to mention you'll have a hard time finding it the first time you go to look for it. I would definatly recomend this reciever to others if you currently have good working speakers or plan to upgrade them right away. Now that I have upgraded my speakers to sony bookshelf and center channel (which i also reviewed) my system has never sounded better. The dolby surround sound is amazing for both movies and if you play lossless music files on it. It is a great all around system but i'll say it again, if you can get passed the real crappy stock speakers it comes with.
Digital camera Review: Automatic Summary: 5 Stars
I use this for movies, sports, and gaming and it gets the job done. I do my "hi fi" listening at my computer and have a whole nother setup for that (look at my reviews) and couldn't be happier.
This receiver is just totally awesome! It takes the mystery out of setting up your surround and HD system. It sounds great, recognizes everything you plug into it and just works. I matched it with 5 BIC America speakers including a nice center, and run my Xbox360 and Blu Ray player through it. Buy your cheap HDMI cables on amazon and make sure to grab a cheap TOSLINK cable so you can send the surround sound signal from your HDTV channels to the receiver and you are set. I also found the Logitech Harmony 550 to be the ideal remote to run all of my gear after using the remote that came with it to set this receiver up. I'm super stoked about this receiver and have owned it since last summer.
Skip the mic and auto surround set up. Just leave it balanced or tweak it yourself if need be.
Digital camera Review: Bang for the buck. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this as an open-box [...]. It didn't come with the auto-calibration mic, but not a big deal. This receiver was so easy to set up using just 3 HDMI cables. I hooked up my PS3 and my cable box(DVI to HDMI) to the receiver and the third HDMI cable to the TV. Other than the speaker wires, there are only 3 other cables stickin out of the back of this thing. No birds nest behind my TV anymore.
If you are not looking to spend a bundle on a receiver, I highly recommend looking into this one. It sounds great. It's easy to set up using all HDMI cables, [...] you'd be hard pressed to find something of similiar quality.
Digital camera Review: Best Bang for the cash Summary: 4 Stars
This receiver works great with the PS3 or any HD Player that has a decoding capabilities.
What more do you want for sub-300 receiver?
PCM sounds awesome.
Digital camera Review: Best Bang for your buck Summary: 4 Stars
Great receiver for the price. Has vast amount of features. I especially like the amount of wattage per channel, being 7.1, and the 4 HDMI I/O. For the couple of weeks I've had it, no complaints.
