I have really enjoyed this product. It is my first real receiver. I have always had a HTIB but I needed several HDMI ports for my new set up. This receiver has done exactly what I needed. I paired it with a set of Boston Acoustics Horizon Series MCS100MDNT 5.1-Channel Speaker System (Black) that were on sale during one of amazons todays specials and the sound is great.
You have the ability to label the inputs so if you want to name the devices instead of seeing HDMI 1 or Video 1 you can. This really helped the younger ones figure out how to work it. Very user friendly. They just rotate the knob through the different input ports until they find the one that says Wii.
To try to help other amateurs like myself I do want to throw this in. The subwoofer port is for a powered subwoofer with a single jack input. My HTIB subwoofer had a double red and black input jack. They are not compatible. You have to purchase a powered subwoofer separately or purchase a set of speakers with a powered subwoofer included. This in by no means a fault of the receiver, it is just not something I knew and caused me some headache.
I can't think of any negatives at the moment. Well, maybe one. The system is a Sony so of course the remote only wants to control other Sony devices. I don't think there is a way for it to be a "universal remote" to turn the TV on and off. Even my cheap DVD player can do that.
I am a huge proponent of the cheap HDMI cables from Amazon. HDMI Cable 2M (6 Feet)
That is all I have ever used and I have never had any problems. They work with everything and I have seen no reason to buy expensive/overpriced cables.

The audio codecs are ahead of the mainstream technology that is out there. Blu-Ray will eventually take advantage of all of this tech, but having this piece of equipment gives you a head start and will not become obsolete anytime soon. Sure, you can probably find "better" sounding equipment, or some think just because they paid a lot more, but I have had the same Sony DD/DTS 5.1 receiver for 8 years before I purchased this receiver. I am completely pleased with this product and Sony has always produced great electronics. I see no reason spending $500 or more for something that his Sony can do for much less.Digital camera Review: Great value, but can channel A and B play together?

Great value on a nice receiver. However, as best I can tell, I can't play speakers A and B at the same time. Could this be so???
