I like this item so much that this recent purchase is a back-up. The sound is great, the buttons are easy to distinguish when involved in an activity, and best of all, one battery gives me as much battery time as my players with two batteries. This is the best walkman you could buy. For some reason, this particular model only requires one AA battery, and you can use a half dead battery that won't work any longer in your other electronics (game controls, computer mouse, dig camera, etc.)!!! So you never will have to buy batteries to use this one, it recycles old batteries and make them last ages longer than they should.Digital camera Review: Books on tape champion!

I have purchased two of these over the past three years, one for my father and one for myself.
-This is an excellent tape player for books on tape.
-Very tuff I have dropped mine multiple times and it just keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny. (Note: I use it with the included padded case that gives the walkman good protection)
-Great battery life for the tape player. I regularly get more than 60 hours of tape player time out of a single Energizer alkaline AA battery.
-The weather band radio works well within the 30 mile radius of a major city.
-TV band works well within a 30 mile radius of a major city.
-The FM radio delivers good quality sound for music listening.
-The AVLS (automatic volume limiting system) is very good of protecting your hearing.
-The headphones are good but not great. I recommend replacing them with a nice set of ear buds.

My kids and I listen to books on tape from the library, and it's getting increasingly hard to find cassette walkmans at local stores, even though we live in a large city. All our usual sources had dried up, so we were delighted to be able to buy this one through Amazon. It's a basic, functional walkman. Nothing fancy, but just right for elementary/middle school kids who still tend to break their electronics fairly often.
