We purchased this player as a means to convert audio cassettes to mp3 files. It replaced a desktop system, and it works great. The portability is nice, the sound quality is equal to the Sony mini system used previously. Portable cassette players are a dying breed. They're difficult to find anymore, and most of them don't have a rewind button (why???). That's why I've relied on this Sony Walkman, as it's the only one I've found with a rewind button nowadays, which I find indispensible. I use it to listen to books on tape. Cassette players are smaller and easier to carry around than portable CD players. Because I use it only to listen to audiobooks, I've never used it to listen to the radio or weather channel and therefore am unable to comment on those features. Because I don't use those features, the unit is more expensive than I'd like to pay for just a plain old player to listen to tapes. But, it's the only one I've been able to find with a rewind button that you don't have to pay through the nose for, and that's why I have to accept the other features that I don't even use. This is my 4th Walkman of this type. The previous ones either ended up with a broken battery compartment door or the wheels that turn the cassette didn't work anymore, would turn either too fast or too slow, making the spoken word on the cassettes unintelligible. The battery door is very poorly designed and cheaply made; the battery contact is right on the door so if it gets broken or even just loose, the unit will not hold a battery. The cover breaks very easily. The advantage is that it uses only one AA battery. I give this player just an average rating; I just have no choice but to get this if I want something that plays cassettes, has a rewind button, and doesn't have an outrageous price.Digital camera Review: Disappointed

The Am and FM reception was very poor. I live in an area where I normally receive NYC, NJ, and Philadelphia radio stations. On my home radio I can receive dozens of stations but on this Sony Walkman I can receive only a handful and I cannot receive any of the 4 public radio stations.
I have not yet used the cassette player.

Unit seems to constantly stop for a micro second and then start again when I am playing it which is very annoying when playing a tape.
