I bought this primarily to listen to language tapes and the unit is more than adequate for that. I was only able to get 2 and 1/2 FM stations--2 clearly, one with interference. The weather stations come in rather weakly. AM didn't come in at all. So if you're looking for a good AM/FM tuner, this isn't it. The Sony Walkman is a great item due to portability and if you still have cassettes to listen to. The sound is great when playing tapes. The radio feature is a little difficult to naviagte and may take awhile to figure out. I bought this to listen to tapes I still own and it totals suits that purpose. Cassettes may be going out of style but personally, I have tons of cassettes that I still listen to and it's nice to have a small portable player such as this Sony Walkman. I've never been disappointed with any Sony product and you won't be either. I highly recommend this portable player of anyone who enjoys music as much as I do and don't care to spend a fortune converting them to MP3 or Wave. I'm extremely pleased with my new Sony Walkman. It's everything I wanted plus more. I was afraid this particular item was outdated and no longer available, and I have soooooo many cassette tapes.
