Digital camera reviews of Sony Webbie MHS-PM1 HD Camcorder (Silver)

Digital camera Review: Great Bang for the Buck Product
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this product because the camera flips both ways (vs. just out for the FLIP) and I was hoping the quality would be slightly better than the FLIP HD. My buddy took some video with his and I was NOT impressed.

I love this thing for its portability. I think the sound and video are good for 95% of what I need to do. However, like others have noted, don't even remotely think about using this in the dark/low light. The product isn't engineered for that. No optical, reduced sensors, etc to hit the price point.

Unlike the first reviewer I found the quality on this TONS better than a cell phone (I own a moto Q).

Something different to own vs. the rest of the herd owning flip videos makes me an owner of a unique product that most others don't. It becomes a conversation piece when I show it to others.

I was reviewing the quality of videos/pics this past weekend and I got what I thought I would. Good pics but not GREAT pics and video that did the job and can be uploaded/edited easily.

Digital camera Review: Great Camera!
Summary: 4 Stars

Most reviewers are asking too much from this little device. It is what it is a cool toy. If you want something very simple then go w/ flip. If your into tech/toys then get this one . Has a lot of features! I think alot of the negative reviews are from people who dont read or want to read the instructions which you can get away with w/ the flip but not w/ this one . Must have the directions handy for first couple weeks. had it for a short time now but love it. I actually have it set for VGA. Looks good to me @ that setting and get morer time that way. Pease out!

Digital camera Review: Great size, good HD quality, lacks image stabilization
Summary: 4 Stars

What a great little camcorder which records directly to memory stick. The strongest feature is recording in AVCHD 1440x1080i. The bit rate is a bit low around 7MBps which is low compared to full featured camcorders and hence the image quality suffers. The audio codec is a stereo 2.1 rather than the Blu-Ray 5.1 standard so expect to do transcoding if you want to author this onto BD.

The still photo capability of 5M pixels is so far below current still camera (10 to 12M pixels) that feature is usless and there is no flash.

Battery life is great, the use of memory is amazingly small, so I'd suggest getting a memory stick in the 2GB to 8GB range.

The single biggest limitation is the lack of Image stabilization. If you hand hold, it will shake! I've found the "light touch" in holding it makes for a less shakey picture. I strongly suggest you invest in a tripod if you are taking serious video.

All in all a great price for a great unit.

Digital camera Review: Huge Disappointment - Mine is boxed and ready to return
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased hoping to take photos of our dogs playing in the snow. After charging the required 300 minutes, Sony still is very slow to respond. After adjusting for a low light setting, there still wasn't sufficient light to take photos or videos. Maybe in Miami in July at high noon I could get a well-lit video. Not mid-morning on a snowy day. Not inside. Oh, and wait a few seconds between making each selection. My old, arthritic dog responds faster to commands. I cannot think of anything that I like about it. Well, it did fit nicely back in the box as I packed to return. Gee, Sony you missed the boat on this one - and I missed snowy day photos. :(

Digital camera Review: Is there a 0 star rating?
Summary: 1 Stars

That's what I would give it. Huge waste of money. If you want poor quality photos and poor quality video, this is the product for you. Shame on Sony!!!
