Digital camera reviews of Sony Webbie MHS-PM1 HD Camcorder (Silver)

Digital camera Review: It's ok.
Summary: 3 Stars

I currently own a Flip Mino HD and was looking for something with a bit more features. I bought this because of its expandable memory and removable battery. I didn't want to be limited to the Flip's 60 min shooting time and 2 hour battery life. The unique swivel lens is pretty awesome! It made turning the camera on and off really easy and shooting video at all angles also easy -- especially if you're taking self videos, just turn the lens on yourself! Taking 5MP photos is a plus. You don't have to bring an extra digital camera!

With that said, I ultimately returned the camera. The features over the Flip are really great, but I was pretty disappointed in the video quality compared to the Flip. Low light video is not great -- indoor and night shooting was pretty dark. I know there's a video setting for low light, but that didn't really help the quality much. It picks up audio really well but if you swivel the lens you can hear it, and it also picks up wind easily. I mostly take snowboarding video, and do a lot of indoor and night shooting. Also, the digital zoom is choppy. If video quality is important, may I suggest searching for video samples/tests/comparisons. If you will mainly be using this outdoors during the day, this might be for you.

Digital camera Review: Keep Looking
Summary: 2 Stars

I didn't look very far, when searching out a hand held webcam. My husband was deploying, so I picked up two of the smallest, affordable cameras I could find. Big Mistake. The battery life of the camera is wonderful while recording, but I have found that if you record and do not empty the memory card almost immediately, the cam will give you a format error. The videos are sharp, IF and when you are able to actually download and preserve them. I've owned this camera for a year and I have only been able to successfully do this twice.

Initially I thought that only I was having the problem, but my husband who took an identical camera with him also complained that the camera wouldn't turn on, the battery would suddenly die, the battery didn't seem to charge to capacity and a whole list of complaints.

Keep searching for something with better quality and reliability. Even if it's slightly more expensive. You'll regret skimping if you buy this hand held.

Digital camera Review: LACK OF IMAGE STABILIZATION
Summary: 2 Stars

I tried several similar gadgets, and found out that Sony Webbie has the best HD quality. At the same time, lack of image stabilization left me speechless.
Almost all picture cameras have image stabilization today. And this is done for fraction of the second exposure. Camcorders with out image stabilization are more like a joke. No one expect consumers to use tripod all the time with point and shoot camcorders like Sony Webbie.
I returned my Sony Webbie back to the store, despite good HD quality overall.

Digital camera Review: Love my Webbie!
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently took the Webbie with me to shoot interviews on the fly at a convention I went to. It was so easy to use and the videos in SD mode were good. Audio was surprisingly good too! I would go back to the newsroom each day, connect to the web via usb and upload to tubemogul.

On the HD side the videos I show of my son in the backyard were excellent. All this and it fits in my pocket like a big pack of gum. Oh and the swivel head is a great feature too.

Other plus's for me were the long battery life and the ability to use the Pro Duo cards. 16GB in mine.

I recommend this for anyone who wants to shoot video on the fly!

Digital camera Review: Lovely Camera
Summary: 3 Stars

If you are looking for outstanding of light weight with a long time battery life camera and easy of use. It is the reason for you.
But do not to be expect to much about high quality. It is no flash that give you a poor quality at night.

Anyway, I am happy to put it in my hand bag everyday, and I think I is reasonable price to take it.

God bless.
