Digital camera reviews of Sound Blaster Digital I /o ModuleDigital camera Review: Does what it should Summary: 5 Stars
Not a lot can be said about how good a sound card expansion is. I find it a little annoying that it's shaped the way it is given how short the cable is. It was packaged in a very OEM sort of way, which was unexpected given Creative's generally flashy packaging, but what do I care? It works just fine though, and now I can use my monster cables for my PS2.
Digital camera Review: Doesn't work with 5.1 surround sound system Summary: 2 Stars
the good thing about it is it's cheap, I was gonna buy this for my extreme gamer fatal1ty to run optical to my z-5500 speakers but it only works with 2 channels the rest of the speakers are silent. I don't recommend it for people who are using surround sound system.
Digital camera Review: Easy install - works great Summary: 5 Stars
I received this just a few days after ordering from the Amazon vendor. It was simply plug and play. No software involved, just plug it into the Sound Blaster card, turn on S/PDIF and away it works. Very simple.
Digital camera Review: Go Digital or Analog but not both Summary: 4 Stars
Installing this product looked easy enough but was far from that. The "Instructions" consist of a picture of the device plugged into the X-Fi Sound Blaster card. Hmmm... That looked easy enough and I plugged it in and there was a brief moment of satisfaction when I saw the red light in the TOSLink optical output port -- unfortunately there was no audio.
I'm running Vista so none of the Creative applications work at all -- which isn't a problem in most cases except this one. Visiting Creative's website provided no relevant support.
The bottom line to get the Digital I/O module working is to use Control Panel->Sound. Find your speakers and click Properties. On the Custom tab click Digital Only. The analog speakers will be disabled but the Digital I/O will work.
BTW: If you want to record PC audio connect the coaxial input to the coaxial output and make sure you turn up the input gain to 100%. You can use any sound recorder (including the free one that comes with Vista) to make high quality digital recordings.
Digital camera Review: Inadequate Sound Blaster Documentation Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this to be able to use an existing digital coaxial cable with a new computer with a Creative SB X-Fi PCI Express that had an optical digital output. Information about the SB Digital I/O Module on Creative's website and on Amazon indicated that the module should work with the X-Fi PCIe. However, this wasn't so, so I had to return it to Amazon. It's hard to understand why Creative can't adequately document its own products.
