Digital camera reviews of Sound Blaster Digital I /o Module

Digital camera Review: Output works
Summary: 2 Stars

The unit lights up when addressed in the control panel, but the optical input does not work. Output is fine, but it is not the reason why I bought the unit. Tried everything I did to get an older dongle working on a SB Live (which still works in an older PC) but no results. It seems like Creative's drivers for the X-Fi are not up to the task yet, or they are clashing somehow with my system. The older dongle and SB Live combo was a pain to get to work, but in the end it did. Not the case with this unit. If you are buying to get optical output, go ahead, it works. If you are looking to record from any digital source, skip it.

Digital camera Review: Pay Attention to Speaker Settings
Summary: 5 Stars

This was posted a year ago, but is the RESOLUTION to using this module. No where is this documented via Soundblaster site, but I too after wasting hours of time getting this module to work, read this comment and problem resolved. Good Job to original poster.

The bottom line to get the Digital I/O module working is to use Control Panel->Sound. Find your speakers and click Properties. On the Custom tab click Digital Only. The analog speakers will be disabled but the Digital I/O will work.

BTW: If you want to record PC audio connect the coaxial input to the coaxial output and make sure you turn up the input gain to 100%. You can use any sound recorder (including the free one that comes with Vista) to make high quality digital recordings.

Digital camera Review: Pipe out excellent digital audio
Summary: 5 Stars

If you have read the other reviews, you should already know that you must have the right sound card for this device to work. Compatibility info is available via creative labs' web site.

Once I got everything hooked up, I was surprised that I couldn't get signal out of the digital output. I fuzzed with the setting on the computer to make sure digital output is turned on and checked all the wiring. Finally, I unplugged and plugged the device. It worked! The sound quality is excellent. My computer audio now comes out nice and clean from the amp!

Digital camera Review: Providing only PCM (stereo) output
Summary: 1 Stars

I am breaking my head on how to get Dolby/DTS/5.1 output from this module. Looks like we can not. It just converts the analog stereo to digital stereo. I tried all the settings in my onkyo reciever including direct channel. But, when i tried the test sounds (from the sound blaster control software), only the front left and right speakers play. The rest remains mute. You get the output when you enable the "Digital output only" from the sound control panel. But, the output is just PCM.

Digital camera Review: Simple HTPC connectivity
Summary: 4 Stars

This little module kept me from having to purchase a new receiver. I was able to quickly and easily connect my home theater PC's SoundBlaster Audigy 2 soundcard to my AV receiver via digital coax for true 5.1 Dolby Digital surround. And there are also digital in jacks as well, so I'll be able to run optical digital in from my sat box to the PC eventually. A great addition to my home theater setup.
