I had been told by a lot of people that you don't need to buy extended warranties on modern electronics. If there is something wrong, it will fail within the first few months. Well, we just had to replace a vizio plasma that we bought at Costco. Turns out it had a panel defect and was unrepairable. Costco extends the manufactures warranty to two years, but this one failed after 27 months. Lucky for us we had a third year of warranty from American Express! It took about a month and a half with no TV, but they finally came through and refunded our entire purchase price!
We bought a new Samsung plasma through Amazon, and the Square Trade warranty was a great deal. I read the other reviews, and people seem very pleased with their customer service. Everything is done online, so it's easy. Terms a re much better than a retailer warranty. I looked at the same set at Sears, and their warranty was four times the cost, and not as good.
Like any warranty, I can't really judge how good it is until I need to use it, but it's reassuring to know I have one.
