Digital camera Review: Sees like an owl

Now I know how an owl sees in the dark! :) This camera has excellent night vision, but it has to be placed outdoors at night because window glass will reflect the light back to the camera and obscures its view. That is about the only bad thing about LED cameras. Exposure accuracy and day vision are also good, as is resolution. Other reviewers have complaints about the mounting bracket. I have the same experience. The main problem is that the 2 screws that attach the camera and the base of the bracket to the arms of the bracket. They tend to come loose. After I tightened these two screws and then secure them with silicone rubber, the camera is actually usable again. Before I did that, the camera will simply flop about, unable to stay in one position, partly because the camera is too heavy for the bracket and partly because of the loose screws problem I mentioned. A sturdier, better bracket is needed. The camera also does not fit the illustration in the manual, so I have not figured out how to change the lens with the wide angle one supplied with the camera yet. I did not want to experiment for fear of breaking something. Other than these 2 problems, this is a very good, high resolution camera that can see farther than 60 ft at night. It is rare that a manufacturer underrates the capabilities of its product, but this one can definitely see farther than is advertised.Digital camera Review: Swann Maxi

I'm drawing more attention to the prior comments on the brackets. I've been using the camera in a Phoenix summer and it's picture for the price is better than the other sub $100 night visions I've tested but the bracket is not only ineptly designed it's dangerous to your investment. The camera's come off twice once from the clamp on the ball slipping and the camera "headbutted" the door beneath it .. cracked lens. It's fatally flawed without making you own bracket hence the 2 stars, would be 4 other wise.Digital camera Review: Worthless at night

I purchased from a Home Security store($169.00 each). These are worthless at night. One is too dark and the other is too light, like looking into a dense fog bank during the day. Customer service at Swann has been less than acceptable. Long hold times by phone and the website response slow and no help. I am going to junk these and try another brand.Digital camera Review: Wow!

Oddly enough, the technology is pretty good and it's under 100 bux!
If you're like me, you think "Ok, it's a camera. I expect it to show me what's going on." Well, not only does it do it, and do a great job, but it even shows you black and white images at night thanks to it's infrared LEDs. It will NOT show you a license plate at 60', but you'll be able to see anything you want at 30'. I measured it off. You'll be fine up to about 40' but after that it's more like "Yes, that's a blue toyota" instead of "Hey, that's Fred in a blue toyota, license plate number 9999999, and he's eating a sandwich!".
I'm not disappointed at all, but I'm ordering the 260.00 Clover HDC518 to see if it's more LEDs provide a better night view.
If not, it'll get replaced with another one of these!
EDIT: One more thing, others have complained about the mounting bracket but my bracket was NOT the one shown. Evidently they updated the brackets to a better model. Mine is rock solid (for a camera) and I've had zero trouble with it.
