I've owned and used many different types and brands of switches. I must say that this switch works best for the price. I run the switch 24/7 in a temperature controlled environment (68 degrees F), and have not seen any problems. The temperature on the box is cool to warm. It's never hot to the touch. I needed to "split" a single Ethernet connection between my DirecTV box (for DTV on demand) and my Samsung BluRay DVD player (for Netflix streaming)so I did not have to keep swapping the cable back and forth.
