Digital camera reviews of TRENDnet TE100-S5 5-Port Ethernet Switch (5 x 10/100Mbps Auto-MDIX RJ-45 Ports)Digital camera Review: Compact and easy to setup Summary: 5 Stars
We recently got new machines at work and being software developers, we have a lot of software that needs to be installed and tested prior to getting rid of our old machines (which can take more than a week) so we needed extra network ports in our offices.
With the price of this switch being under $15, I ordered 1 for myself and 1 for another developer. Took it out of the box, moved the cable from my machine to the switch and put a patch cable from the switch to my 2 computers and it worked with no problem, and I have room for 2 more devices as well.
The unit is very small so it takes very little space on my desk. The case is a little warm, but not overly hot. Have had this in place for about a week now and have had no problems with it and have not noticed any issue with speed.
A great little product.
Digital camera Review: Compact size, great price and quick delivery Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered 2 of these switches after having read the reviews on amazon.com and they arrived quickly. Using one to extend one network connection for an xbox and a pc. Works great so far. The other one is used for travel.
August 19, 2010 update:
I ordered another one of this for my son who's going to college. Just now tested it and everything works perfectly out of the box. This is a great buy.
Digital camera Review: Connects all my home theatre gadgets Summary: 5 Stars
Perfect little unit and easy to set up. Just plug it in. I've connected a Sony Bravia KDL-52W5100 television, Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray player, and Asus O!Play media player. I didn't have an ethernet outlet near my home theatre system so I used a ASUS WL-330gE Multi- Functional Wireless Access Point (also a simple little gadget). So thanks to this switch (and the wireless access point), my entire home theatre system has wireless connectivity for firmware updates, network access, and Internet content.
Digital camera Review: Dead in one month Summary: 1 Stars
Initially upon receiving the TRENDnet switch, I was excited to see how compact it was. Then I looked for the instructions...and kept looking. Since the ports were undifferentiated (and undocumented), I just plugged a cable leading to my router into the first port. And then plugged my other devices into subsequent ports. Everything worked great at first, again I was happy.
Less than a month later, this (insert expletive) is already dead. I guess you get what you pay for, but I really expected a lifetime measured in months or years, rather than days. My advice, pay a few extra bucks and get something more reliable. Otherwise, if you care about your connection, have some sort of backup mechanism in mind.
This junk has left me scrambling for a replacement and paying overnight shipping costs as well. No fun. Normally, I'd try to return it, but honestly for [...] its not worth it.
Digital camera Review: Dead on Arrival Summary: 1 Stars
I got a lemon. It wouldn't turn on, plugged into multiple power outlets. Had to send it back to amazon. Buy a little higher quality product and don't waste your time.
