Digital camera reviews of Tamrac 5501 Explorer 1 Camera Bag (Black)

Digital camera Review: Great, compact gear bag.
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this bag for my Olympus Evolt E500 dSLR with dual lenses. It fits the body and two lenses perfectly. I also managed to fit the new wide angle lens I bought as well. Other than that, though, there isn't much more room in the main compartment. The zippered pocket in front holds lens covers and additional memory cards. No room for the battery charger, but there would be room for an additional battery. Still, the price is right and it holds and protects my equipment.

Digital camera Review: Great, just a little small
Summary: 4 Stars

Bought this for my D90, Recently bought a backpack instead. This bag fit my d90 with 18-105mm and sb-600 no problem. Plus other accessories in the other compartments. This bag will not fit a gripped camera.. I bought a grip so I had to upgrade. Great little bag for carrying around when you dont want something bulky though.

Digital camera Review: Nice Bag - Perfect for Nikon D40!
Summary: 5 Stars

This bag is the perfect go anywhere companion to the Nikon D40. Small enough to grab and go - I looked at the next size smaller, but based on reviews chose the Explorer 1. It is the perfect size to carry camera w/ 18-55 lens attached, a flash on one side (I use the SB 400), charger & cables or zoom lens on the other. Front pocket is perfect for extra batteries memory, etc. Excellent quality!

Digital camera Review: Not enought space for me
Summary: 4 Stars

I have a D80 with the 18-135mm kit lense and 50mm f1.8. It fit, but was very tight. The 18-135 is probably the largest lense that could fit in this case. When mounted it fit ok, but if i mount the 50mm and put the 135 on the left, it's very tight. There is also not enough room for a full sized flash. On the other hand, my mom's 2 lense D40 kit fits great you might could even get a flash in with it.

I ended up getting a Lowepro slingshot 200 and am very happy with it. I have room for all my equipment and could still add some things.

Digital camera Review: Perfect Fit For The Canon XSi/450D
Summary: 5 Stars

This Tamrac case is a perfect fit for my Canon XSi/450D DSLR camera. It has plenty of pockets and is amply padded to protect your camera and accessories. I simply love it!

Features
--------
- Adjustable Compartments
There are two partitions, each with 4 Velcro flaps (2 on each side), that stick to the inner walls of the case. By moving these partitions, the size of the compartments can be adjusted. The partitions can be removed completely if you desire. (Tip: with the partitions removed, the case makes a good lunch box because the walls of the case are very generously padded and provide very good insulation.)

- Generous Padding
The bottom and the walls of the case and the partitions are generously padded, so your equipment will be very well protected, even from a substantial bump. Each of the partitions have a padded top flap that folds down to act as a protective cover over the top of contents in a partition.

- Plenty of Pockets
The case has 6 additional pockets for putting your flash cards, batteries, filters, lens cloth/blower, adapter rings, remote shutter release, lens hoods, and other accessories. (1 pocket on the top of the cover, 1 pocket on the underside of the cover, and 4 pockets in the front zipper compartment.)

- Padded Shoulder Strap
The padded shoulder strap has 2 loops (one on each side) for attaching your cell phone, flashlight, sunglasses, and other small items. The shoulder strap can be removed if you wish.

- Top Handle
A handle is attached to the top cover of the case so you can conveniently grab the case and go.

- Superb Construction
The construction of the case is top-notch. It is well-stitched and sturdy. The material from which it is made appears to be very high quality, so I expect the case to last a long time. The nylon lining inside the case makes the case water-resistant.

- Secure Closure
The case can be closed by using the plastic buckle and/or the double zippers. You have a choice of using either the buckle or zippers, or BOTH. I usually just use the plastic buckle so I can get my camera in and out of the case quickly.

Additional Notes
- Accomodates the XSi with Battery Grip Attached
I was pleasantly surprised that the case is able to accommodate my camera with the battery grip attached; otherwise it would be a real pain to have to detach the battery grip every time I need to put the camera back in the case! To fit my XSi with the battery grip into the case, I have to orient the camera such that the length of camera is parallel to the shorter sides of the case.

---
The Tamrac Camera Bag is well-made, and functional. Most importantly, the case is amply padded, so it will keep your camera and accessories well-protected. Highly recommended.
