Digital camera reviews of Tamrac 5766 Velocity 6x Compact Sling Pack (Black)Digital camera Review: Good pack for a started DSLR Summary: 4 Stars
Great pack. I picked this up at a local shop and its worked out well for me. I think it would be a little tight for a full sized DSLR however. Very well constructed and thought out.
The best way to explain it is to say what I have in it and let you be the judge if it will work for you.
In the main compartment:
Canon T2i with 18 to 55 kit lens, Canon 55 to 250 Zoom lens, Hoods for each, UV lens on each, A lens cloth to clean with and one that I keep the unused lens wrapped in. I also keep a waterproof sack in it that can be used to cover the whole bag or the camera if taking shots in bad weather. This arrangment allows either lens to be used or stored at any time with out having to swap them to make room. The extra lens and the camera are seperated by the padded dividers as well.
In the front compartment:
2 extra batteries, a cleaning duster/spray combo, I very small tripod, 4 seperate sd cards, and a remote. Theres a little more room for something small but not the charger.
This is a great pack to take the majority of everything you need for most situations. Though it may seem cramped with what I listed it truly isnt and does not hinder quick access and packing. The 55 to 250 lens with hood reversed is about the max size to fit comfortably so take that into account should you have other lenses. Also if you use wider lenses you will likely be able to fit only one. This is a case for a Rebel user and not a pro. Someone who wants a better camera and also wants to make it easy to take with them. Another advantage of this pack is that its small enough when loaded to stuff the whole thing in a normal backpack along with a quality tripod and whatever else you can fit.
The one downside for me is that I have decided its a little purse like and will probally go with something else at some point. No fault of the bag itself, just my manhood calling out for something black and square.
Hope this helped someone.
Digital camera Review: Good travel camera bag Summary: 5 Stars
While it takes a bit to get used to it since I have never owned a sling type bag. I found it was very comfortable once you did. I received the bag and immediately went on a 14 day trip and carried the bag almost everyday. It was very easy to retrieve the camera from the bag, snap pictures, then put away and move on.
Digital camera Review: Great Bag for Canon Xsi Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent bag for a digital SLR like the Canon Xsi. While one reviewer said it was too small for the Canon Xti, it's perfect for the newer, smaller Canon Xsi. I can store the charger and an extra battery in the right side compartment and store my 18 - 55 mm lens in the left one. I mount my 55 - 255 mm telephoto lens on the camera which then fits snugly in the bag. I can also mount the normal lens on the camera and store the zoom telephoto in the left compartment. I also like the Modular Accessory System straps on the two sides which allow attachment of Tamrac accessory cases, if desired. I use one of mine to attach my compact digital camera in it's case so I don't have to always change between my normal and telephoto lens when I'm in a hurry. This bag is compact but well padded. The inserts inside the bag separate and protect the lens mounted on the camera from the extra lens and battery charger in the side compartments. This bag can be carried so it rides on your back or can be carried so it hangs under your arm for security in crowded areas. This position is also good if you are hiking and are using a backpack. In addition, the bag is small enough that it fit in my computer backpack so I could carry my laptop, my camera and bag, other valuables as well as my computer and camera accessories in one carryon when flying. This bag is exactly what I was looking for when searching for a compact, functional bag for my Canon Xsi.Tamrac 5766 Velocity 6x Compact Sling Pack (Black)Tamrac 5766 Velocity 6x Compact Sling Pack (Blue)Tamrac 5766 Velocity 6x Compact Sling Pack (Blue) + Accessory Kit
Digital camera Review: Great Day Bag! Summary: 5 Stars
This is what I would consider a day bag, not a bag to carry all of your camera equipment (we have a Kata KT DR-467 that we use to carry all of our equipment and a laptop). But this bag was exactly what I was looking for. It's small, light weight, comfortable to carry, and there's room for all kinds of little stuff (memory cards, band-aids, mints, a cell phone) in the front zipper pocket. I recently took it on a trip to the zoo and it was great. It easily slides from my bag to my front and the camera easily slides in or out.
When I was researching small-ish sling bags, I was torn between the Velocity 6x and Velocity 7x - I was worried that the 6x wouldn't fit our camera a Canon 40D with a 28-135mm lens but I opted for the 6x because I wanted a small camera bag. The camera is a tight fit but it does fit well (you do have to adjust the velcro straps on the inside, though). We have since upgraded to a 24-105mm lens. The 24-105mm is actually a bit bigger than the 28-135mm but with a readjustment of the velcro straps the camera still fits fine.
I highly recommend this bag if you're looking for a small day bag. If you're looking for something with a bit more room than I would consider the 7x or 8x.
Digital camera Review: Great Design, but a little snug Summary: 3 Stars
When my boyfriend gave me my first SLR I wanted to get this bag because he had it too. (Not because we are one of those matchy matchy couples, but because I liked the ease of use and portability of it.) The bag arrived and I was so excited to use it! It really is designed to fit comfortably but I found that it was like HALF the size of my boyfriends. I didn't send it back because I am just an armature at photography so my equipment list is rather small, but still the two lenses I have and flash and body fit REALLY tight in the bag. It is my fault for not realizing that there were big differences in the velocity style. The bag serves it's purpose and I still take it EVERYWHERE, but if I get more equipment I will definitely have to upgrade in size.
