Digital camera reviews of Targus 32-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader TGR-CRD25Digital camera Review: Look Elsewhere Summary: 1 Stars
I picked this up because it states on the packaging that it works with Windoze Vista. It didn't matter what I tried, nothing, NOTHING worked. Support for this thing under any OS but Win98 is nonexistent. The packaging also claims to not need any drivers for Vista. Wrong again. It needs something because it wouldn't even be detected half the time. If you've got Vista, move on, this product isn't for you (or me). If I could give it zero stars, I would.

Digital camera Review: More than I expected!!! Summary: 5 Stars
After purchasing a NEW notebook computer with the "new" Vista, I needed a multi card reader. I went to an office supply store and purchased a Sony multi card reader with a CD installation disk only to find out after several attempts to install it, and two calls to Sony Tech support, that this reader, one of the few removable readers with compact flash regognition, can be installed on my computer. I paid thirty dollars for it only to find out that it was not returnable. I went to Wal-mart, checked their electronics department and found this Targus for a little more than six dollars! I was even told I could return it if it wasn't the right
NO installation disks required, and it uses a USB 2.0 port with about a five second delay while it reads and recognizes the drive(s). Fast access to the different types of chips I use on it...PLUS...it's small and compact. Just right for travel with a notebook. I recommend this one...a keeper!
Digital camera Review: SmartMedia may/may not exist Summary: 3 Stars
The purpose of this review is to clarify the SmartMedia situation with this reader. Basically this exact part number (TGR-CRD25) has come in a couple of different flavors. At some point in the past, this reader must have supported the media directly. However, it does not appear to anymore. The squarish version says it supports SmartMedia on the packaging, but mine does not. The rectangular version (which seems to be the current model) does not have SmartMedia support nor does it mention it on the package. So if you really need support for that memory type, you are probably taking a chance buying this reader since you don't know what version you will get. It works well for the media that it supports, but since the packaging and product are misleading, I only give it 3 stars.
Digital camera Review: Smokin' - and not in a good way! Summary: 1 Stars
I needed a card reader quickly one Sunday night, and so I looked at the web reviews for this card at national chain with a local brick and mortar store. Many of the reviews were negative, stating that the usb cable that came it was cheap. But because I had tons of extra cables that size, I didn't worry and picked one up anyway.
The reader worked fine for the first two uses (using the original cable), but then today it kept disappearing and then re-appearing under Windows XP. I removed and replaced my CF II card a few times to see if it would work, when suddenly I started to notice a burning smell. Sure enough the card reader was hot and was stinking of burned plastic.
I've never had a peripheral device start to burn before, but there's always a first time for everything.
In looking at this item here on Amazon, I noticed that it's branded Mercury, but listed as a Targus product. Mine is the same model but is branded Targus, so I don't know who the OEM really is in this case. Regardless, I'd stay far away from this card reader.
