Digital camera Review: A versatile adapter

I bought this mostly because our lab laptop only has two USB ports, and we need at least three at times. I'm not expensing it, because I want to use it for my own projects at home, too.
I found it for $5 less at a local Fry's Electronics when my wife and I were shopping for Christmas presents. I'd had it on my Amazon wish list, but its off it now.
My wife is very weight conscious, so the mini-USB plug can recharge her cell phone from her laptop when she travels. Thus, she doesn't have to carry a dedicated cell phone charger. The major problem there is the cords are too short to charge the phone and use it at the same time unless you use it on speaker phone.
The mini-USB to full size USB adapter comes off the slides a little too easily; I'd be happier if the slides were metal vs. plastic, but that would make it pricier. Still, I'm afraid the adapter could get lost.
Actually, I guess if you need a mini-USB connector a lot, you won't care if it gets lost, and if you need four USB connectors, you'll have the adapter on the mini-USB connector all of the time.
I plugged it into my XP Service Pack 3 laptop today. It was recognized immediately, and in 5 seconds was installed. My external WD 160 GB USB powered Hard Disk Drive ran fine with this hub, albeit it was the only device on it at the time.
