Digital camera reviews of Targus PADVD010U USB 2.0 DVD/CD-ROM Slim External Drive - BlackDigital camera Review: Great player Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great DVD player. Very slim and portable. Quite play. It's powered completely by the computer's USB ports although it does have a DC plug in back if you want to plug into an electrical outlet.
Digital camera Review: It works with a few minor errors. Summary: 4 Stars
The disc drive works. It has disc drive errors and has to be shut down occasionally, but not too much.
Digital camera Review: Not compatible with Windows 7 Summary: 3 Stars
This is a nice external drive and works well with Windows XP or Vista. However, it does NOT work with Windows 7. If you have a computer using Windows 7 or if you plan to upgrade to Windows 7 then this is not the drive for you.
Digital camera Review: Not good Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this external drive thinking I could copy my new compouters backup disks to disks. Just learn from Targus that this drive will only PLAY CDs and DVDs. You cannot record to it. So, if you wanted to copy anything to disks, this is not the drive for you.
I also tried to play a DVD and got message, Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a compatible decoder is not installed on your computer.
I am just not at all satisfied with this drive. Whoever is selling (Amazon, etc.) should make a prominent notice in the information that you CANNOT record to disks on this external drive.
Digital camera Review: Perfect for what I needed! Summary: 5 Stars
After downloading Windows SP3, my dvd-rom drive no longer worked. I spent hours online with an "expert" from Microsoft trying to fix the problem. My time is worth more so I splurged and purchased the Targus DVD/CD-ROM drive. I plugged it into the usb port and it was ready for use! I had read one of the other reviews on Amazon (a one star review) that said the tray was flimsy. The tray on my internal drive is flimsy too so I figured how bad could it be? To my surprise, this product is well made and feels very solid. The tray is better quality than my internal DVD drive. Don't even hesitate to buy this product. You'll be happy you did. By the way, I'm still working with Microsoft on fixing my problem. They even admit that it has nothing to do with my hardware.
