Most remotes are ridiculously complex, especially for site-impaired elderly (such as my mother) who did not grow up with computers. If they can find/see the buttons at all, it is way too easy to hit 2 buttons at once. This remote was the answer for my mother. It was a bit challenging to program, but the effort was worth it. My husband was always pressing our remote control and always gettings NOT THE selection he chose. His fingers were too big and he would blame the results on the TV. I purchased this remote for my 84-year-old Grandmother, who was having problems using the last "universal remote" I had got for her. She would hit the wrong buttons, couldn't remember or read what each button was for, and would get so frustrated she would just leave the TV on whatever channel it was on even if she had no interest in it.
But now she is THRILLED with her new Tek Pal Large Button remote! It is a perfect size, the buttons are very easy to read and are very reactive - just one push and they do what you want. My only regret - that I didn't buy this for her sooner.

I had been looking for a simple remote control for my mother who has dementia. The cable company remote control is much too cluttered with buttons for her to comprehend in her condition. Having to turn on the cable box and then the TV...it was too much for her and she really struggled. I had been looking for a remote for her with big and simple buttons and this one was perfect. The only drawback is that it doesn't work with the cable box. In a perfect world, this remote would turn the cable box AND the TV on and off with just the on/off button. For my mother with dementia though, even just a few channels would be fine, so I removed the cable box and plugged the cable wire directly into the back of the TV - she just uses the remote with the TV. It's absolutely wonderful! She never used the cable guide button or anything like that anyways, so she's not missing out on anything. The back-lit buttons are great too! Works absolutely as advertised. The only comment I have is that one should be cautioned that it may take 20+ channel inputs to get it to move on to complete the programming. Those with moderate to low patience levels will have difficulty accepting that it takes so many inputs to make it function without any logic being supplied as to why so many inputs are needed.
