I bought this for my 88 year old mother because there are always too many buttons on regular remotes and I was always helping her. She would push the wrong buttons for features that confused her and couldn't get back to a normal screen. This is perfect for her. So simple to program, too. My uncle has macular degeneration. It's hard for him to even see tv much less negotiate the little buttons on the remote. The size of the buttons and the simplicity of the key pad allow him to control his tv viewing. Since he receives only the network channels (no cable), this is a much better option that the huge alternative big button remote with a numbered key pad. However, he has commented that it's a little inconvenient because he can't see the channel number as it flashes on the screen, so he doesn't know if he's on the right channel until the commercial is over.
If you've never tried to program an alternative remote control, you should know this is easy. I was a little apprehensive but I gave it to my very non-techie husband to do and it worked right away.
