Digital camera reviews of Terk HDTVa Indoor Amplified High-Definition Antenna for Off-Air HDTV Reception

Digital camera Review: A bit tricky, but for the price you get a few channels in HD for free
Summary: 3 Stars

This isn't going to replace your cable box.

But if you don't watch much TV, maybe only when catastrophic global meltdowns occur and you need to see the news, this is perfect.

After inputting my zip code into the website they provide, I point my antenna towards the direction I THINK they've provided, and turn on my TV with my fingers crossed. Success, I have KPBS, NBC, and a few spanish channels.

Now for me, this is perfect. But don't buy this expecting to replace your cable box. It's also a pain in the ass to find a place to put the antenna without looking incredibly out of place.

Digital camera Review: A good antenna for the price.
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm 32 miles from most transmitters (NYC), and I get great UHF reception with this antenna (all my UHF stations are in the same direction, so the directionality of the antenna is a good thing!). The VHF reception is just okay (I've positioned the antenna as optimally as possible for channels 7 and 11. Dipoles horizontal, 28" length total for best gain on Channel 11 (the weakest of the two VHF-Hi signals that I wish to get).

With amplifier off, Channel 11 is basically blocky or no signal, I have to really play with positioning to even hope to get anything. With amplifier on, if its blocky, it boosts it into a watchable signal (if there was no signal in whichever spot, it doesn't help... can't boost something that isn't there!). The amp also boosted my already strong UHF stations to mostly 100% signal strength.

I get a total of 34 Channels (counting subchannels, but a total of 12 in foreign languages), which isn't too shabby for free!

(My only complaint is that I wish the VHF antenna was directional too. The base seems sturdy enough, I haven't had it fall over yet and nobody is going to bump into it where it is positioned. It's sturdier than my silver sensor clone that this replaced.)

Digital camera Review: A good performer
Summary: 4 Stars

It works far better than my old non-amplified, rabbit-ear antenna: I get about twice the number if DTV channels and most of them without any flickering (DTV channels don't have any image distortion or snow, but you may occasionally experience some image flickering). It's also more discreet and better looking than I expected. The multi-element directional antenna is for UHF while the folding rabbit-ears are for VHF. I kept the rabbit-ears folded since I don't have many VHF channels (Note that most DTV channels are UHF although their virtual channel number is between 2-13). Some reviewers wrote that it's a bit unstable; I don't think that this is an issue, as long as it's on a flat surface.

Digital camera Review: A good product at a reasonable price

This indoor HDTV antenna works well in my area (Los Angeles County) I pick up all the HDTV broadcasts and a total of 100 digital channels. I recommend this antenna for users in metro areas.

Digital camera Review: A little more information please

I have read many of the reviews, and I assume this product works well. But my main gripe here is with amazon and the manufacturer. This product is an amplified antenna, and most amplified antennas require an external power source. However, this product was not advertised as needing an ac adapter, and was even advertised as receiving its power for their amplification through the coaxial cable. While most people who buy this product will not care whether or not they have to plug it in, I bought this antenna specifically because it was the highest rated non-powered antenna. However, this antenna REQUIRES TO BE PLUGGED IN TO WORK PROPERLY. In addition, they boast that this antenna has a "small footprint." This is the third antenna I have purchased, and it was by far the biggest. It is definitely more interesting looking than most. But being aesthetically pleasing does not somehow make it smaller.
