Digital camera reviews of Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial CalculatorDigital camera Review: Buttons don't react to fast entry Summary: 1 Stars
Just got my BAII pro and the first bond calculation required an entry of 1000. I heard and felt the zero key click 3 times, yet only 2 zeros were entered (100). I have tried this over and over, and find that although the key clicks, the numbers are not recorded unless you type slowly. This is completely unacceptable and I will return the calculator soon, and try the BA II plus. I would rather have keys that give no feedback, then I will visually make sure the entry is valid.
Love TI, but cannot believe they would put out a product with a flaw like this.
Digital camera Review: Buttons skip: Frustrating! Summary: 2 Stars
The buttons skip. When I press them, the buttons give a reassuring soft click, designed to signal to me that the number has been entered. But frequently the number is NOT entered, even though the button clicks. The result is that I get wrong results and have to repeat my work. This is immensely frustrating, and it seems to happen mostly with a few digits (0, 1). The whole point of a tactile button-click is to give feedback that the number has been received. Because of what must be shoddy design or manufacturing, my unit is unreliable. Because it is unreliable, I have to double-check my entries--which slows my work down--or I have to press extra-hard on every button (which gets wearing when you have hours of work to do).
How can a simple product like a calculator be so hard to get right? This is mature technology, apparently from a leading company in the field, but it cannot do the job reliably. Making a calculator look flashy is secondary to making a calculator that does its work and does not waste my time repeating my work.
Digital camera Review: Buy TI BAII Plus Professional instead of HP Summary: 5 Stars
CFA exam allows only the TI and HP calculators. The TI is far far better than the HP so dont buy the HP. I found out after lot of research. HP is old and is not used much.
Digital camera Review: Buy this or any other TI or Sharp over the HP 12C Summary: 5 Stars
Why does the CFA exam require this calculator? Probably because in order to use the HP 12C properly you need to bring the manual with you. If you don't have the manual with you at all times when using the 12C you can get the wrong answer. Take the example in T. Hope's review, but try calculating using n= a payment with a decimal place, such as 24.5. Then try the same thing on an HP 12C. Oops, you don't get the same answer. That is because the HP12C doesn't allow you to enter payment terms with decimal places in the normal manner, even though it looks like you can. You need the manual to do it correctly. The real problem is that you don't even know when you need the manual. If you enter 24.5 the same way as 24 on the HP 12C, you won't get the right answer. Any TI or Sharp financial calculator however will give you the right answer. What other surprises are in store for those who use the 12C?
