Digital camera reviews of Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Silver Edition Graphing CalculatorDigital camera Review: Calculator will take us through high school and beyond Summary: 5 Stars
The TI-84 Silver edition is just what we need for high school and college. It's functional and fun (with additional features) and worth the money.
Digital camera Review: Cheaper Elsewhere Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this calculator for my daughter in high school at a cost of $114. Before it was shipped, my wife found it at Walmart for $79. The only diffrence was that it was not the silver edition. I believe that means that the $79 one is black instead of silver. If the color dosen't matter to you, I'd buy it from Walmart.
Digital camera Review: College students, meet your new best friend Summary: 5 Stars
You can't know how invaluable this little thing is until you have to take the dreaded Calculus.
I'm in high school and currently taking Pre-Calculus and in a month I'm starting AP Calculus. While in high school, I was enrolled in an early college program. I've managed to ace my College Statistics, Geometry, Algebra without the help of any Texas Instrument calculators. Got by with a simple scientific calculator.
But Pre-Calc is a different matter. We were required to use TI 84 Plus Silver Edition. And I'm glad I learned how to use it before heading off to college. I just know that this handy device is going to save me tears when it's time for College Calculus.
STARTING:
I'm still learning how to use the device. It can get a little overwhelming at first because of the many buttons and the many functions. Yes, it is intimidating and yes, it is a little complicated.
But be patient, read the manual or get the book TI 84 for Dummies.
THE PRICE:
I do agree that it is very pricey, especially for student budget. It can really hurt your meager student savings, like it did mine. But this is a good investment, especially if you are planning to major in something involving a lot of math.
THE LOOK:
Not bad. It's silver so it looks a bit more elegant than the previous black TI Calculators. There's also other colors to choose from like pink, blue, purple and orange. No matter how much tempted I am to buy the girly pink TI84, I settled for a neutral silver because I might decide to bequeath it to someone else if I purchase a new one later on.
It is a little bulky and heavy for me. But one thing I can say for it is that it is tough. Mine hit the concrete floor about 3 times already. It sustained a little scratch but that is it.
Digital camera Review: Compared to the ti-89 Summary: 4 Stars
So the ti-84 is an amazing piece of equipement espically when compared to the ti-83 but the best is ti-89. So many programs and features that makes calculus and engineering a breeze.
Digital camera Review: Decent, but overpriced Summary: 3 Stars
Despite its claims of being the fastest TI calculator ever, my TI-83+ Silver consistantly beats the TI-84 by a few seconds at complex graphs. Unless you need craploads of storage or interchangable faceplates, there's not much advantage over the (much cheaper) TI-83+. If you want to spend this kind of money on a calculator, you're better off with a TI-89, which will last you much longer into high-level college math.
