Digital camera reviews of Texas Instruments TI-89 Titanium Graphing CalculatorDigital camera Review: Don't waste your money on the 83+ Summary: 5 Stars
There is a racket where in high school they get you to buy the 83 then in college the 86 then later in college the 89. Just buy the 89 titanium when you are in high school. Its a great calculator that has all sorts of functions. It does derivatives, integrals, has study cards if you need any "help". If you are doing math, science or engineering this is the way to go.
Digital camera Review: EE major's review Summary: 5 Stars
This does everything I could think of needing for school. Does complex polar to rectangular equasions and conversions, solves DE's and has a EEpro and MEpro feature I haven't even been able to touch yet.
Digital camera Review: ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING TOOL Summary: 5 Stars
As an Electrical Engineer, I know that usually a good calculator that is bought at University years, will most probably be with you for life. Mine is an old Casio FX-850P, which back then was a marvel!
Nowadays, my nephew is also studying Electrical Engineering, he wanted/needed a calculator.
A sort of netbook could have been usefull, since they are very small, light, portable, and it's possible to run all kinds of software. But some courses only allow calculators, netbooks and laptops are prohibited. In addition, a calculator is smaller (fits in your pocket), lighter, and the battery life is much much larger. (Have you ever run out of batteries in the middle of important work while using a laptop? It usually happens! Now imagine that in the mid of a test!!!).
After doing some research myself, looks like the TI-89 is the best tool currently available. (HP used to make the best ones, but on the past years most people seem to agree that quality is subpar, and usability has decreased. A shame).
Also important, most of my nephew's classmates also use TI-89's, so I bought this as a gift to him.
TI-89's are extremely versatile programmable calculators/computers. There is a very large community of users who have written software for those things not already within. And if required, anyone with some programming and technical knowledge can write their own programs.
My nephew has used it for a few weeks and so far is very happy. It has already been very useful with some of his classes.
Digital camera Review: Essential Graphing Calculator Summary: 5 Stars
when dealing with higher education math course this is a must have calculator and it's easy to use
Digital camera Review: Essential for Calculus Summary: 5 Stars
This is absolutely essential for anyone taking a Calculus class. This is especially true for later on, such as in the later half of Calc 2 and all of Calc 3. After learning how to manually evaluate integrals and differentiate, as you move on to higher level concepts the 89 titanium can be used to do these manual tasks for you, allowing you to focus on the new material and allow you to practice more without wasting time on repetitive evaluations. I love this thing, and would not take Calc and Physics without it.
