Digital camera Review: Fun While It Lasted...
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this from Avon, and was delighted with its performance for about a month. Was able to record several videos and took quite a few stills, easily uploaded to my PC with included software. The quality was about as good as my basic cellphone camera, but what do you expect from something this small and inexpensive? It was great to have a nifty little device that would fit in my smallest pockets and not weigh me down (a couple of Stoned Wheat Thin crackers would take up more room and be almost as heavy). Charge from computer or plug the USB adapter into any AC outlet; the disturbing telltale sign was that the monitor would display what the lens was seeing as long as it was plugged in (isn't there some reason computers have screen-savers?) There's a "USB Charging" or some such screen if you charge it in the Off mode, but that stopped working (now it just says "Loading...") Within a few weeks, the battery started holding a charge for shorter and shorter durations, and eventually would only work while the camera was plugged in (severely limiting the unit's portability). I suppose it would still function as a webcam, but I have no use for that. I did get a replacement from Avon, but the new one had an even shorter life. I've noticed Avon has been trying to get rid of them as Clearance items, and I wondered how many of their stock are actually returns that don't work. As if the failing battery isn't enough, here's an annoying little quirk: You can turn off the little "beeps" that signal your clicking through the menu, but you have to go through several steps of the menu to get there, and you have to re-program it every time you turn the unit on (i.e., it defaults to noisy function). *sigh* And I had such high hopes for this cute little table shim. Well, at least the USB adapter can charge other more deserving electronics off house current (but I can't help thinking I could have bought it cheaper and not had to try & find a home for an overpriced webcam.
