Digital camera reviews of TiVo TCD648250B Series3 HD Digital Media RecorderDigital camera Review: High-tech marvel !! Summary: 5 StarsThis box is simply outstanding. As a Tivo enthusiast I was already familiar with the great service features and my old Series 2 has served faithfully. I'd researched before buying the Series 3HD but still I was unprepared for just how cool this thing really is. With two CableCards installed and both Tivo boxes wireless networked I can watch a recorded program, transfer a program, and record a favorite -- simultaneuosly!!
The video quality is greatly improved coming through the 3HD -- even regular TV looks better.
My one gripe is that I was forced to by the Tivo wireless USB adapter.
I had a perfectly good Linksys G but the Series 3 box only supports its own adapter(a discounted $40 @ Amazon, by the way).
All in all I am very pleased with Series 3 HD and glad that I started building my new home theater system with it as a key component.
Digital camera Review: Great tool for improving TV watching Summary: 5 StarsTivo Series3 HD is a big step up from version 2. Outstanding HD quality, great way to eliminate the cable box, and can become the media center for your entertainment system, if one sets it up right (show off photos and listen to you digital music collection). The Cable company was a little slow on the install, but well worth the effort to set it up right. Plus, I'm no longer charged by my cable company for a box, remote or the HD service by my cable company which the savings more then the monthly subscrition. Just the saving in drinks (vs being at a bar) while watching HD sports games has paid for the device. Time shifting is really the only way to watch cable TV. Tivo and the cable companies are adding content all the time making this product better by the day. Do your self a favor and join the Tivo revolution.
Digital camera Review: Unreliable and will not work with Time Warner Cards Summary: 1 StarsI was very excited to receive the new Tivo. However after Amazon's prompt shipment the nightmares begun. It is extremely unreliable when it comes to networking (either PC or Mac). It took a week of constant chatter on the Tivo Forum to finally get it to work semi-reliably. I was willing to go with that, but the Time Warner came by to install the cards. Actually the installation went fine, however after we powered up the TivO we discovered that 95% of my HD channels could not be received. A call to Time Warner confirmed that their Cable Cards will not work with the Tivo and will only receive about 5% of the HD channels. So what good does it do to have a sophisticated device that won't work with the service I pay for. I am now in the process of returning the Tivo, canceling the cable cards and hopefully get Tivo to honor their 30 day warranty.
Digital camera Review: Tivo Series3, $1000 price tag, 200x too much, BEWARE Summary: 1 StarsThe only thing Tivo's done right (besides allowing you to share your media with your networked computers) is additional storage via eSATA external harddrives.
My Wireless G USB Tivo adapter didn't work without a software upgrade to my Tivo DVR (it came with software that was 2 years out of date). My Tivo DVR had out of date software, the cable card you are required to get to make it work is not compatible with ONDEMAND, and it costs about 200x as much as just renting a Comcast DVR.
If not for the ability to add the additional storage and export media to my computer, my Tivo DVR would have been a complete rip off. As it is, I still feel cheated.
If I had it to do all over again, I would have just gone with a DVR from my cable company.
Digital camera Review: TiVo Series 3 with BrightHouse cable Summary: 5 StarsI bought this TiVo Series 3 in February and had some resistance from my wife. She absolutely loves it now, as do my kids!
The TiVo is intuitive and has virtually no learning curve. I've had some issues with the cable cards that have nothing to do with the TiVo.
When I tell people the features of the TiVo, they regret having their BrightHouse DVRs! They miss out on features like sending a recorded show across the Internet to another TiVo, etc.
It was a very good decision; well worth the money!
