Digital camera Review: Blows Comcast's box out of the water

I have been a longtime TiVo user, so when I was upgrading to HDTV, I wanted to go for a TiVo HD. The high price had been a barrier to entry for awhile, but the $99 deal with my new Samsung TV was too hard to pass up. The TiVo, as expected does a great job of handling and recording HD content and has all of the same features that you have come to expect from TiVo. Since I'm using the TiVo HD, my Comcast cable bill did not increase when I upgraded to digital/HD since you get one multi stream cable card for free. Wow, TiVo, way to stand behind your product. Ours broke after 5 months of use--and because of a KNOWN ISSUE people have been posting about in the help threads on the TiVo website for more than a year--and they want to charge us $50 plus shipping both ways to replace it. What a piece of junk, with terrible customer service to boot. Don't buy it--the risk is too great, and it only gets more expensive as you go along. TiVo used to by synonymous with quality and excellent customer service. When this units works, it's great. But too often it loses the cable signal; even though the same signal shows fine when connected directly to the TV's input. This happens every couple of days and, as a result, programs which I though were recorded have not been stored. Recording those shows is the unit's raison d'etre so this is unacceptable.
After an hour of troubleshooting I discovered that the problem can be temporarily 'cured' by rebooting the Tivo; a process that takes five minutes or longer.
Now, I learn from the Tivo Forums that numerous people have this problem and the company has not acknowledged, let alone fixed, this obvious defect.
So after spending $650 ($250 for the Tivo, plus $400 for the 'subscription') I'm no more certain that the programs I want recorded, will be, than when I used a VCR.
Don't buy one of these Tivo's until this problem is fixed.

Tivo almost doubled the price of a three year service plan with one year to go from $6.95 a month to $12.95 a month because the subscription on my original unit expired and I was cancelling that subscription as it was no longer needed. When I cancelled the other subscription they did not inform me that they would increase the charge on one of my remaining two units. I found out when my credit card was charged. Customer service refuses to do anything to reduce the bill and the only way out of the remaining year on both my units is to pay the full amount that would be charged if I keep the subscriptions for the full year. I will never buy anything from Tivo again.
