Purchased two Tivax STB-T8 CECBs last fall--largely based on Consumer Reports top rating. Both died shortly out of warranty (purchased elsewhere). One was flaky for a while, then would crash after a few hours operation, then just dead. The second just died.
Have had great luck with the Channel Master CM-7000 and Echostar DTVPalPlus.

I purchased one of these and had the sound slowly start to die out until the sound on the box and TV were all the way up with very little sound coming out.
Fortunately, the first one was within the return period.
I had a second one shipped to me and it works fine.
I would suggest this box as long as you have an opportunity to return it within the first few days if it goes bad.

At a net $10, after a discount to $49 from $79 and a discount card from Uncle Sams' FCC, this is a MUST have box. You get a state of the art tuner that works better than any of the built-in tuners on the new TVs - more on-the air channels. It also tunes the music broadcasts in the TV bands and can put this signal out to the music or theater system without turning on the room-heating TV (even an LCD TV uses considerable power.) The remote control is small, easier to use than most, and when used on the TV shows very clearly what it is doing. Be a little bit green- keep using the old TV where the picture is still decent. It will have better pictures than ever with this tuner. All the different digital formats come through fine. Even at $79, this would be a reasonable device.
The only downside - you will have two remotes and should turn off both the TV and the STB-T8 tuner when not in use.

Read consumer report and found out this box has been rated at top 10. Bought 1 from Amazon w/ free shipping. The deliver was faster than I expected. Open the box, and take no time to set it up. everything is as simple as a layman can handle. I was suprised that this cheap box can pull in the stations I supposed to receive from antennaweb.org calculated. I am completed satisfied with this box $10 after the coupon - nothing can beat.
