Digital camera reviews of TomTom GO 930T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic ReceiverDigital camera Review: I actually have a GO 920 but it's not listed on this site. Summary: 2 Stars
I got my Tom Tom because I thought the GO 920 was the best model available anywhere, when I bought it. I didn't skimp on price. Price was no object because I wanted the best. There are a number of disappointments with this product: 1. Tom Tom is supposed to have free map updates, but unfortunately when I try to update my maps I get a message that my product doesn't qualify for free updates. This is a big disappointment. 2. The 920 says "You have reached your destination" TWICE! First at the intersection BEFORE you have reached it without telling you if you should turn right or left and then again when you have reached it, but it doesn't tell you if it is on your left or your right like Magellan does, which I tested in a Hertz Rent a Car. 3. The 920 frequently tells you to turn right before you reach your destination when the destination is in plain sight on your left. 4. The Bluetooth speakerphone has GREAT duplex sound quality but it won't activate the voice dialing in my LG cell phone, which even the cheapest Bluetooth headsets & speakerphones do. Then to add insult to injury it won't import the phone numbers from my phone. 4. It would be nice if there was an EASY way to rename a favorite ONTHE SAME SCREEN you enter it on instead of having to hunt for "Manage Favorites" in the options when your not in a rush to get somewhere. 6. I hope someone from Tom Tom actually reads this & offers me a reasonable upgrade to the GO 930, which I would hope has the bugs out of it.
Digital camera Review: I used this product for 2 weeks, then decided to return to Amazon. Tomtom has 1 year of traffic updates for free, Summary: 2 Stars
I used this product for 2 weeks, then decided to return to Amazon. Tomtom has 1 year of traffic updates for free, later they charge 59.95 per year. Map updates are also good for 1 year. I ended up purchasing navigon 7100. traffic updates are free for life. and does not have extra hardware for fm traffic. Works as good as tomtom for 3rd of the price.
Digital camera Review: It Works, but not worth it ... Summary: 1 Stars
Purchased this unit as my first TomTom unit, after using several different GPSs over the previous years.
It works, but there's nothing special about the TomTom. Several months ago, this unit had unique features. However, there are now common from many different makers ... which are either the same cost or better.
When I received this, the RDS antenna was the wrong one. I had to send it back *AT MY OWN COST* so they could send me the proper one after two weeks.
If you talk to TomTom Support (East Coast Business Hours Only) be prepared to send proof that you purchased this unit from an Authorized Vendor only - otherwise you will NOT be supported.
All the connectors for this unit are on the bottom. This may not be an issue unless you want to use a dash mount (required for California). About the dash mount - you're going to have to buy one from a 3rd party - TomTom doesn't sell one (at least I couldn't find one on their site).
After about 2 months of use the unit stopped working. Actually worse - it began acting erratically.
Unit would turn itself on at random (draining the battery)
The battery charge indicator was a joke. Even after charging overnight and verifying the charge was 100%. Attempting to use it an hour later would show a dead battery.
When it did turn on, it would constantly reboot itself.
Had to RMA this unit (after providing proof-of-purchase). Note had to send it via UPS/FedEx/etc... They DO NOT accept USPS for RMA. Seems the mailclerk who receives USPS is somehow unable to take packages back to the dock where UPS/FedEX delivers.
The TomTomHome s/w. What a joke.
Graphical & Slow.
Expectation seems to be that you will only ever have ONE TomTom Unit at any time in your life. After I received my RMA GO930, I had to DOWNLOAD all the maps again to the new unit via TTH. Note - I already had the maps for the unit I returned.
Somehow the maps are locked to an individual unit when they are downloaded! SO be prepared to have a high-speed line and wait as maps are downloaded while your TOmTOm is docked and otherwise useless.
This was suppose to be a top line GPS from TomTom when I bought it 3 months ago. It was NOT ready for use.
It shipped with incorrect parts, which made it non-functional and which *I* had to pay to receive the correct parts.
The TTH software is NOT user friendly, nor is it fast for any activity which it does try to perform.
The GUI on the GPS is nothing to speak of. It's there, but lacking in thought. Once you get to the configuration menu, any change you make will automatically take you back to the main screen. This means you have to constantly walk the menu trees to make another change. In fact this happens at most of the menus ... make a change/selection and get dropped back at the main screen.
Bottom Line... But ANYBODY ELSE but TomTom. You'll probably pay less, and get an equal of not better product and support.
Digital camera Review: Major Flop Tom Tom 930T Summary: 1 Stars
Tom tom had abandoned previous year useful, friendly application and large hard drive. Very disappointed with my 930T, inaccurate and cant even find
the major discount warehouse in Southern California. With proper address still led us opposite way.
More appointment of buying online return policy.Be beware of hefty restocking and mailing charges. Stick with well known major discount warehouses.
Digital camera Review: Many high-end features but disappointing quality Summary: 2 Stars
My 930t came with the wrong traffic antenna - the one I got was designed to work in Europe but not the US (and I live in the US). 3 calls to tech support, then I must pay to send the bad antenna and they will send me the correct one.
Many 930s (including mine) have developed a voice 'stuttering' problem (the device stutters as it announces directions and road names). Also the refresh rate of the map screen can get very slow. Can you imagine buying a brand new top of the line nav system and getting this kind of result?
The problem is the latest software verson for the 930 (8.3) has this stuttering and refresh problem. If you want to use the latest maps (815), you actually have no choice but to install the latest software, which has this stuttering problem.
So if you don't want stuttering you can't upgrade your software to 8.3 which means you can't use the new maps.
TomTom says they are 'working on it' but what kind of quality control do they have, to release something like this into the marketplace? Its been several months without a fix.
Also the mapshare idea is very good, but TomTom can't seem to keep the Mapshare servers up -- many times I get errors when I upload my map corrections and I go days at a time without getting any new mapshare updates (because their servers are down).
To me, its a sign of a company trying to deliver high tech products with understaffed and underperforming engineering and tech support departments.
I previously had a TomTom 910 and it did not have these quality issues.
