Digital camera Review: Started well but finishing very badly

I have now owned the 930T for nearly 18 months. at the beginning of the year I paid for the US map subscription and an RDS subscription. Everything went well until I tried to instal the second map update. I got a USB device unrecognized device message from my laptop. Since then I wrestled with the online support and email support, and finally after 4 months I resorted to live support. The outcome: sorry we cannot fix it. You need to buy a new unit, but you can have a $10 discount, except we no longer sell that model so you are stuck. And there is no refund on the subscriptions.
I checked online and this seems to be a common fault in a part of the system that belongs to TomTom. If any lawyers read this - is this a candidate for a class action suit?
Following this, I will never buy another TomTom device.
I had used TomTom on my PDA and I liked the interface. There came a time when I needed to get a dedicated GPS. I needed coverage for N America and Europe and the 930 fitted my needs. The first 6 months was great and then I needed customer support. The RDS function failed after several weeks of email messages I was informed that the service was down - why did it take so long to get sense out of them. At the same time TomTom Home informed me that I needed a new European map and made me back up and delete the old map - there should be no need for such user intervention - you do not need to do this when you update the US map. After that it has failed when it attempt to download the new map. Customer support is next to useless. I have had a series of messages requesting updates to my .Net framework operating system and other stuff. But no resolution. It seems that you need to be an IT expert to run one of these devices. In the meantime I had a computer crash, fortunately my TomTom files were backed up but there is no simple way to restore the European maps. During all of this they updated the way that the graphical compass works and in my opinion it is dangerous. You now have to figure out your direction by computing the angle between the direction that the arrow points and straight up - yes this is the way a true compass works, but this is an advanced electronic gizmo. In the old version the arrow pointed in the direction of travel relative to north which was straight up. Now if it points west you are travelling east! I would not buy another TomTom. There customer support is abysmal and you need it too much, and apparently they are always experiencing abnormally high volumes of traffic so don't expect an answer for days and then it is unlikely to be of much use.TomTom GO 930T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic Receiver

Hello,
I have recently moved in USA and it is a big challenge to drive in USA w/out efficient and reliable GPS. As soon as I landed, I bought Tomtom 930 because Tomtom is very famous in Europe. Just recently, I have bought Garmin 680 for my wife and I have been using for for 3 days and can make proper evaluation despite time is short to make an accurate evaluation:
PROS and CONS of Tomtom 930 & Garmin 680
1. Tomtom is a lot more user friendly with remote control.
2. You can find the locations with Zip Codes (I have not seen such spec in Garmin yet at least)
3. Tomtom's guidance is a lot better in complex areas (And with Lane help, it is even better).
4. Tomtom's map is not as good as Garmin's at least for USA. Garmin can find more destinations and more side streets. Tomtom is great only if you don't need every single street in each and every city.
5. Garmin has a lot better view on the screen when compared to Tomtom. It is more clearer and tells you on the screen the next street you must take and the distance left. I may feel it complicated on Tomtom's screen because I am color blind. So, suggest you do not rely on this evaluation too much.
6. EPT is a great feature for Tomtom which guides you even there is no satellite reception. However, this feature sometimes crashes and turns the device off.
7. Tomtom follows different ways for the same origin and destinations. It is so strange but I do not really know the reason.
Last but not least, Tomtom is a great product with great features when compared to Garmin 680. However, if your occupation is sales like me, you need Garmin to find where you need to go in all details. But, Garmin's features are a lot less than Tomtom's. I wish there was a GPS which compiles all pros together in one device. You should also compare the price difference between two devices I own.

I was using GO 920, now I have GO 930.
Problems:
1. Screen hard to see in the sun light (safety problem)!!
2. Customer support is vary bad - long wait then not knowlegable advice
3. Spec is lying: FM transmitter is disabled.
4. Street routing is not predicable.
5. I read in previous post that the battery cannot be replaced, this makes it a very expensive disposable gizmo.

Purchased the 930t in Dec 08.
The ability to add changes is a great idea. You can add roads but not individual addresses to your unit. Tom Tom can do this for your future downloads. Speech is certainly a problem with the 930 it will garble and cut off during the speech process. Tom Tom is aware of the problem and is working on it. Phone response: it should be fixed in about a month (Contact date 1-23-09) they offer no other help. Overall the unit is more accurate and more up to date then previous GPS systems we have used. We would recommend the 930 sense the price has dropped under $400.00 dollars. We look forward to the 940 in the USA.
