Digital camera Review: TomTom Go 930T Review Summary: 4 Stars
The TomTom Go 930T was simple to install. It was simple to operate for basic navigation functions, however for route planning it took a little longer to learn and I had to ask for technical support.
It would preplan and create a route and it would calculate the shortest route (default option). Knowing the route I wanted to go a different way so I modified the route. After turning the unit off and then back on it would recalculate the route again and not use the modification I wanted. I later had to create an itinery and put a waypoint on a specific road I wanted to travel on so that when it created the route it would include that road.
I also found out the unit would not reverse an itiniary route for a return trip so I had to create the same route in both directions.
The map is very accurate as it had my street at the correct location which on all other maps I've seen including paper maps the location was incorrect. It appears another user had updated the street name with Map Share which is a great feature.
The traffic feature (T) works great as I was 25 miles away from Nashville, TN and it told me there was a 20 minute delay. As I approached the city, it kept updating the delay time. When I got to the location the delay was down to about 6 minutes and that was close to what the delay was. It also informed me of road construction when I was aproaching another City. This is another great feature.
Overall, I am very happy with the products performance and would recommend it.
Digital camera Review: TomTom Go 930T Review Summary: 3 Stars
The product had so many features that attracted me to it. It really is a step ahead of other products out there. The problem is that, even though my BlackBerry 8100 is supported by TomTom for this product, the TomTom services are unavailable.
80 to 85% of the features work for me, but none of the TomTom services work--even though the wide varity of available services and protocols which TomTom should support, they said the US protocol did not meet their specifcations. I am very disappointed.
Digital camera Review: TomTom Go 930T doesn't disappoint... at all Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered the TT 930T and recieved it in 2 days as promised. Everything worked out of the box as advertised. The unit has performed very well in CFL and the many functions are fantastic. Although the FM transmitter is not a great option in CFL due to large number of radio stations, the AUX cable option is perfect. Routing has been accurate and flexible and traffic for rush hour Intestate 4 travel is a must. Easy to plan trips with waypoints and get the route you might expect or choose yourself. Updating App and Maps went flawlessly as well as daily updates and QuickFix updates. Aquires satelites well and re-routes very quickly. Added an 8 Gb SDHC card and is recognized well. As many have said, it is best to add mp3's and files through a card reader as this unit has some quirks with the 8 Gb and higher SDHC cards. With a card adpter/reader all issues are resolved. The screen is bright and easily readable but does have a little glare in direct sunlight that lowers redability somewhat; but no show-stopper. Overall I am very happy with my choice of the TT Go 930T and I would highly recommend it to others interested in a feature rich and well made GPS unit. I researched many brands and models for a couple weeks before pulling the trigger on the TT Go 930T with no buyer's remorse. Happy and accurate travels!
Digital camera Review: TomTom is a Ripoff - Avoid It Summary: 2 Stars
I owned a Garmin Street Pilot for a number of years (the wider, heavier, clunkier age of "portable" vehicle GPS units), and only decided to get a new device after Garmin would no longer support updates on my device. Reviews had the TomTom "flagship" as being equivalent to that of Garmin. Those must have been stacked reviews funded by ACORN, because I see no comparison.
TomTom is noticeably lacking in capability w/r/t accurately finding street addresses.
The Point of Interest (POI) search is terrible. It does not allow distant radial searches (50-100 miles) to the extent of the Garmin.
I have come across many small annoying things. For instance, Garmin's capability to search restaurants by type was a nice plus when in an unfamiliar locale. This feature is absent in a TomTom. The search features are poor. Browsing the map from the current location is tricky and poorly executed in compaarison to the Garmin I once had.
The voice garbles sometimes (frequently at very inopportune navigation moments - overload? processor speed? OS? - I have no idea.). I never heard this glitch in the Garmin.
The screen is almost unreadable in some lighting conditions.
A tipping point in selecting to purchase it was it's supposedly capability to receive live traffic updates. Only after I had subscribed to their service did they let me know that my Blackberry was unsupported as a Bluetooth interface. Total waste of money. Thanks for letting me know up front you scoundrels. I should have sent it back then, but instead, thought "Oh, this is probably the only bad thing. All the other features, performance, etc. should be as good or better than what I had before." WRONG!
This TomTom unit is one of the worst electronics purchases I ever made. Save yourself the pain and buyers' remorse and get a Garmin or a Magellan - or something else... ANYTHING else. TomTom is a ripoff company.
I might toss this in the garbage and go back to my ancient Garmin or use it to sight in my rifle. What a waste of money this was.
