Digital camera reviews of TomTom ONE XL-S 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS NavigatorDigital camera Review: Good Buy Summary: 4 Stars
Bought this unit for my daughter. The best part about it is how easy it is to use. I use a Garmin myself, and like it, but I believe the TomTom is easier to use right out of the box. It is quick and easy to look up addresses or locations. The display is clear and detailed. For the money I think it is a great buy.

Just like the instructions say "you can use right out of the box".
As I like jumping over fire, I purchased the TOMTOM One XL-S two days before venturing out on a 2000 mile road trip (Michigan to South Carolina). All in all I was pretty impressed with the directions provided, however in busy city traffic it is easy to get ahead of the unit. An annoying trait of the unit is if you intentionally get off the path (e.g. for gas) the unit keeps telling you directions to get back on course (a pause feature would be really cool). The unit is also not polite and will start talking when you are on the phone (a mute feature would be cool). The software interface works fairly well and I was able to develop a very complex itinerary which out of 12 locations it successfully directed us to 11. The maps are crude and many smaller details are missing (like rivers and some roads which have been around for 10+ years). I can only assume a minor map upgrade for $$ will fix the missing details. The time to destination feature works surprisingly well. We will be making another trip to South Carolina soon and I will be testing some of the other features.
Right now base on my experience I would buy this GPS unit again.

Just got this. It is a easy to use GPS and is okay for the price, BUT don't be fooled. To update your maps is NOT FREE! You can get corrected maps that have been corrected by other Tom Tom users, but to get the new updated maps can cost! Just to get the newest map of the USA is 79.95 on the Tom Tom site.
For this alone I would return it, but I am leaving on a cross country trip in days!
Digital camera Review: Good GPS. Bad TomTom Home. Summary: 3 Stars
I have finally got my tomtom setup after a week. As soon as I got it I plugged it in to the computer in hope of installing a new map. So after waiting for 3 hours for it to download, it was off to the installation. Well about half way through it froze. So I restarted the download, and it did the same. I did this a couple of times. I finally got fed up and called tomtom support. They said that it was the wrong map that the tomtom server had given me, so I attempted to install the new one. Guess what? DIDN'T WORK!!!! Finally I unplugged it from my mac and tried it on a pc. After a little while it FINALLY WORKED!!!!
So in other words, if you only have a mac don't buy tomtom.

I used this for the first time to go on a trip to Indiana. Worked great. My only complaint is with the computer part of it. Most of the how to information is on the computer, and other items didn't seem very computer friendly. The mount for the windshield/dash left a lot to be desired. It came loose often. If you happened to get it stuck on real well, then it was very hard to get it to release. As far as getting me to where I wanted to go, it worked great. I would recommend it to anyone.
