Digital camera reviews of TomTom XL 330-S 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Box Packaging)

Digital camera Review: Very functional GPS for very little money
Summary: 4 Stars

I have been using this GPS for a few weeks now. I have not found any issues where the maps were incorrect. For the price I paid, it was not much more expensive than 3 or 4 years of paper maps. My only complaint is that it seems like you need a zip code in order to find an address and I don't always know what that is. That being said, there is probably a way around that that I have just not figured out yet. Great basic GPS with a nice size screen.

Digital camera Review: Worst ever
Summary: 1 Stars

This is our 3rd GPS and is absolutely the worst I ever bought. Unfortunately, we ordered it online and tossed the box. The suction cup would not stick onto the windshield. I had to use the adhesive cup and even then if pushed slightly the suction cup would come off. After a week of being on the adhesive cup, the suction cup would finally stick on the windshield. Now I have an adhesive disk that I'm afraid to even try to remove. At best, the suction cup will stick, however, if I try to adjust the direction of the GPS, it falls off of the suction cup holder. Finally, we used it and found that we could not see the LCD screen during the day, even if I switched between day and night use. I've never had this problem with either a Garmin or a Magellan. This Tom-Tom XL 330 is absolutely worthless during the day. I feel like I've flushed my $$$ down the toilet.

Digital camera Review: Worthless GPS. Don't buy unless you need a headache
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this unit over a year ago and have had nothing but trouble out of it. At first it worked fine, had some roads not on its maps but traveling around wasn't that difficult. I decided to upgrade the maps and bought a years worth of maps and updated my gps. After updating the maps, the street I live on disappeared. It was on the original map that came with the gps, but not on the updated maps. I complained but got no response. I was able to navigate better through some of the cities because the updated maps had the road changes in them. Then a short two weeks after ordering and downloading the maps, my gps went crazy during an upgrade through TomTom Home. I lost everything and could not get the gps to respond or accept any programs/updates. I contacted TomTom and they said for me to do a soft reset, a hard reset and to format and let it search for its programs. It wouldn't work. I finally got it to work but I cannot upgrade through my computer. So I lost the price of one years worth of updated maps and the cost of the GPS.

Digital camera Review: a very basic GPS
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this after a ton of research on other navigation systems in the same price range. This one got glowing reviews and I didn't need the navigation system to do anything more than have text-to-speech and accurate maps so I didn't think I was going to be disappointed. When I received it, I plugged it into my computer and updated the map. This was fast and easy. All that left to do was to test it out. This is when I was disappointed. The Tomtom did NOT say the names of streets. I have read other places that this is just a setting that needs to be enabled, but I cannot figure out where it is in the Tomtom and no manual comes with the product - you have to find one on the Tomtom website and I still can't find out how to fix this problem. Also, I passed a few turns because of the confusing timing of the alert to turn. I found myself having to ignore the voice and just watch the map which was annoying and probably not so safe. I considered that this might be because this is my first navigation system but then I remembered that I have no problem with the Google Maps navigation on my cell phone (T-mobile G1).

Honestly, I was hoping that if I got this navigation system I would be able to downgrade my cellular service and save some money. It is sad that the navigation system on my phone is SO much better. Faster, more accurate and efficient maps, speaks the street names, MUCH more intuitive software navigation, more responsive touch screen and I can search for an address on it. The latter is something that I thought the Tomtom would be able to do and it sadly is not. It is annoying and antiquated that one must know the addresses of everywhere they want to go in order to have the Tomtom take them there. If I go to a store and they don't have what I need but a salesperson suggests another store, I then have to find out the address of that store instead of just being able to search for it on the Tomtom. This thing is like something out of the Flintstones compared to my phone. The only plus I can think of is that its speaker is super loud. Unfortunately that's not enough for me.

Digital camera Review: broken
Summary: 1 Stars

THe GPS is ok, does what is suppose to do. But the company Tomtom do not communicate with their costumers. I got a GPS with the car charger broken. So I returned to amazon (wich really tried to help, I really appreciated this) but then I got another one with the same problem if not worse. I opened the little bag for the car charger and the parts came out, I tried to put them together but I couldn't. As I really need the gps I bought a car charger in another store and now it's working. But NO, I DO NOT SUGGEST TOMTOM for anybody else, get another brand because if you need to complain nobody is gonna answer the phone or replie your e-mail. Thanks amazon anyway.
