Digital camera reviews of Toshiba 19AV500U 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Black)

Digital camera Review: Good product, rapid service
Summary: 5 Stars

Rapid service...ordered on Wed.-received on Sat.from Beach Camera. Good product...expect it to be as reliable as all Toshibas I have owned. Picture is excellent-sound is acceptable. Would recommend.

Digital camera Review: Good tv if it works
Summary: 4 Stars

I received this tv a few days ago and I was impressed by the picture and sound. The lcd screen produced a nice image and nice black levels. Tested it with my cable service including my hd channels. The sound was good too considering its size. Unfortunately, the screen had 2 stuck pixels and 1 dead pixel. I have already sent it back for a replacement so hopefully the new one will be better but since this occurred I decided to read some reviews on other sites and found out that for some reason Toshiba's manufacturing policy with pixels is to o.k. a screen that has 3 or fewer pixel problems. I hope this is not true. I guess I will find out when my new tv comes in.

Update: 1/9/09

My replacement tv came in and it works great. I don't understand the complaints about the sound being tiny. For a tv this size it produces really nice sound. I did have trouble receiving any over-the-air channels with the built in tuner but once I hooked up an old hdtv tuner that I bought a few years ago I was surprised to pick up about 10 digital channels and 5 to 6 analog channels. The digital channels were so clear I thought I was watching my normal cable tv. Anyway I am really impressed with this tv and recommend it for watching in small rooms or small spaces.

Digital camera Review: Good value, be aware of aspect ratio
Summary: 4 Stars

I paid $229 shipped for this TV in late November 2008 from Amazon. We bought it to install in our bathroom.

This is a good looking TV, very sleek and smooth. The remote is also very nice. So physically this TV has great qualities.

As for its performance, the biggest thing to keep in mind is that it's not actually 16:9. It's something closer to 16:10. So, the image is vertically stretched a bit. I researched this and apparently almost all 19" HDTVs are like this. I read that It has something to do with the companies also making computer monitors of this same size and not wanting to redo everything.

The speaker quality was important to me because I am not hooking it up to a receiver. I'm happy to report that the speakers sound pretty good. They're not tinny, which is the biggest problem with most HDTV speakers. Also, there are bass/treble settings in the menu, which help tremendously.

The picture quality is strong on both HD channels and non-HD channels. The blacks and the contrast aren't great, but that is to be expected with a low-priced HDTV.

For the price I paid, I'm very satisfied. If I had paid more than $250, I would be a little disappointed, mostly because of the 16:10 issue.

Digital camera Review: Good, but a few things bug me
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this LCD 19" TV mainly for bedroom use.
It's hooked up to my cable. It has a very good picture quality. Changing Viewing Pic Size and Sleep Function is nice. I have no problem with the sound either.

My main bugaboo's...
Small, even tiny Text Fonts, especially when going to the next channel or Menu Reading.
Somewhat hard to read across the bedroom.
Upon further research, a Toshiba Rep. stated there is no way the Font or Text Size may be enlarged by the customer.
So that's that. That should be allowable.

If used in kitchen or closer view, this probably wouldn't bother me.

Another little bugaboo...
Slow going from Channel to Channel (ie. upon entering a channel number). Also, hitting the Up or Down arrow on remote for channel hopping is faster when going to the adjacent channel(s). Still not that speedy.

I don't think I'm too impatient, however, compared to my other TV's it's slow.

After a while I've become use to these inconveniences.

Digital camera Review: Great Buying experience
Summary: 5 Stars

UPS and Amazon is a great team for holiday shoppers who are looking for speed, convenience and good deals. I ordered this TV late Sun night before Christmas and got it on a freezing rainy day next Tue., less than 48hr later. Superb timely service, quite a surprise!

The TV has great reception, with an old antenna no cable, we were able to receive very clear images. The screen size does need to be funneled a little, but no problem for us. Good sound effect, we bought this set for our in-law's kitchen, so the convenience of setting it up and the sound and image quality, would make her cooking experience dramatically different. Plus, instead of telling her that we are still waiting for the shipment and all stores sold out of the unit, we had it delivered in time for free and were able to try it out before presenting to her. Thank You Amazon!
