this is the worst hard drive ever and beware! toshiba customer service sucks to the core! You are not going to get any help from Toshiba in case of any defect in the product.

Digital camera Review: Cable too short

The cable that is supplied with the drive is 12 inches long. This is too short for me to be able to place the drive on top of my computer or in any place other than the floor. I have tried several other cables, such as a 3 foot extension and a 6 foot replacement cable with the proper connectors. These other cables will get the drive power light to go on, but the computer will not recognize the drive.
I also tried to use the USB port on the side of my Dell LCD monitor, but the drive draws too much power for that. I received a warning pop-up message.
I e-mailed Toshiba twice via their support area on their web site. I got no response. I called the support phone number (you pay for the call) and waited on hold about 5 minutes. The support person told me that Toshiba will not recommend any replacement cable and he did not know of any one who had successfully found a new cable that worked.
I'm not sure how I will use the drive at this point. It would work as an occasional backup for my laptop, but I don't really need that. If a 12" cable isn't long enough for you, I would recommend an external drive that has a separate power source - you'll have more options.

Similar experience as another customer -- tried using the drive, initiated an automatic backup. About three minutes in, it froze and made a quiet clicking sound. Unplugged it for a while, tried again, repeat performance. Didn't bother returning it to Toshiba -- they would have charged me to ship their defective product. FYI -- amazon apparently charges a restocking fee for DOA electronics. Overall, this unit is cheap but I won't buy another Toshiba.Digital camera Review: Decent

This little drive does it's job well. The colorful design is nice and makes the drive stand out and easily recognizable amongst other drives. It feels a little flimsy compared to the Western Digital Passport models which are very similar in size and function. Good value for the price.
