Digital camera reviews of Toshiba 320 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive HDDR320E03XDigital camera Review: Does NOT work!!! And Toshiba customer service SUCKS!!! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought the Toshiba 320GB External Hard Drive at the end of the Summer to use with my Powerbook G4. And to this day, I have NOT been able to use it. I have contacted Toshiba's customer service to ask them what to do. First off, they take there sweet time to reply (a week more or less), when their website says that they'll respond in 24 hrs. Then when I did get a hold of them they sent me a USB powered adapter for free (thank you for that), Except, The Harddrive STILL is not registering on my laptop. Then when I tell them waiting for a response. Whatever happened to taking care of the customer who dise-out over a $100 for "Good, Reliable" products? Thanks Toshiba for taking the money and running.
My advice is, Tested it out right when you buy it to make sure it works with your computer. I waited too long to test it out on my Mac to return it to Best Buy.
Best of luck with Toshiba and their Customer Service.
Digital camera Review: Does not work with many laptops, shows up as unknown device, poor tech support Summary: 2 Stars
Bought this hard drive to backup my laptops, did not work with 3 different laptops all had a problem with the power draw and gave an error message. The work around is a powered USB hub, and/or disable the warning notification in the control panel under system, Hardware,Devive Manager, USB hardware, Advanced (click on "Don't tell me about USB errors"), also plugging the laptop computer into wall power seemed to help. Who would know? I also tried all the different updates for the computers. Eventually the drive worked intermittently on one laptop. Called and emailed tech support, useless! The usual solution is blaming everyone else, and that it's not a problem with their drive. Their solution is to send it back under warranty, which is not the issue because the drive worked fine on a desktop computer, so it is a driver issue. When its works, it's OK, but an older 60Gb fire wire/USB hard drive is quicker, and works with every computer I have used it on through the years. My suggestion is that you make sure you can return your drive if it does not work, or maybe consider another mainstream manufacture that supports their hardware. I have heard this same problem reported for some the generic USB powered hard drives. So much for plug and play, good luck with your dice.
Digital camera Review: Doesn't work with the Macbook Air (MBA) Summary: 2 Stars
Doesn't work with the MBA. Something to do with insufficient power supply probably. Toshiba help wasn't too useful - they have a standard reply for this by replacing the USB cable with one that has 2 heads on the computer side to increase the power. Even when I tell them that the Air only has 1 USB port, they insist to solve the problem with a 2 head USB wire. They should read customers' emails properly and reply accordingly.
Other brands like Lacie work fine on the MBA.
The Toshiba works in the Macbook Pro though..
Digital camera Review: Don't buy Toshiba HD get IOmega Summary: 1 Stars
Don't buy Toshiba HD get IOmega
I always had trouble connecting to the Toshiba HD and it usually takes disconnecting/reconnected the USB about 3 times. I should have returned it right away and get my money back but I persisted and after about 6 weeks it no longer connects to my PC.
Toshiba customer service tel number seams busy all the time and I made a trouble report on their web site to no satisfaction.
I got an IOmega HD like an older one. IOmega is solid and never gave me a problem.
Buy IOmega!
