Digital camera reviews of Toshiba 500GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive - White/BlackDigital camera Review: So far so good Summary: 5 StarsI have had the product only a few months and so far NO problems. That doesnt mean I will not have probs. later, just as of now, no complaints, no problems. Works as advertised.
Digital camera Review: Less than 500GB Summary: 4 StarsI like the dimensions and performance of this hard drive, it is quiet, fast, and my computer (windows XP OS) does not seem to have issues when trying to "safely remove" the hardware, as many other external hard drives I have used seem to have. The reason for giving it 4 starts is because I has somewhat disappointed to realize that the actual capacity of the drive was only 465GB! I feel manufacturers should announce the actual capacity or else increase it to 500GB in windows metrics (which are the same metrics used to calculate the size of files). To me, 35GB missing seems a lot.
Digital camera Review: max count I can order is zero, thanks amazon Summary: 1 Starsput this in my cart and go to checkout. It changes the count to
the max allowed with is apparently ZERO.
Thanks Amazon! Going to Best Buy after work.
Digital camera Review: sleek Summary: 4 Starsfor some strange reason, i was very suspicious. the 500Gb was cheaper than 400Gb. The warranty information on the site was very vague and unclear. It was not even clear if the part# was right as there were mismatches between this and those on the toshiba website.
But decided to buy it anyway as 100$ seemed a steal with free shipping. Just checked it out today. It works fine. The cable is really long..... NOT. It is the most stupidly designed cable i have seen. it is a whopping 8 in long tip to tip which makes it very inconvenient. I need to look for a longer cable. Otherwise its too early to tell about performance but it seems to be fine.
Oh and it does have a 3 yr warranty.
Digital camera Review: Excellent, solid drives; great for PS3, too! Summary: 5 StarsI have three lesser-capacity drives from this model line and have used them for a while and they have worked flawlessly, as hard drives should. I bought two 500GB ones to add to my backup set.
These iPod Touch-look-alike pocket drives are lightweight and give you good speed for a drive this size (hint: don't expect 7,200RPM!). The built-in shock absorber helps protect the data. The drives are quiet and stay cool even after extended use.
One great thing about these Toshiba drives is they come formatted as FAT -- at least it's a great thing for PS3 owners, anyway. PS3 can only recognize FAT or FAT32 external drives, and formatting a driver bigger than 32GB in the FAT or FAT32 format requires a third-party program like the freeware Easeus Partition Manager (available at download. com), so these Tosh drives can be used readily with the PS3.
To convert to the NTFS format so you can store big files (i.e., >4GB), simply go to the DOS prompt via the "cmd" command (from Run or Search), then type "convert g: /fs:ntfs" where g: is your Tosh drive letter. All existing files are preserved.
As explained on the back of the packaging, Windows reports the drive's total capacity as 465GB, not 500GB, due to the different definitions of what 1 GB actually is.
Great pocketable external drive, for PCs and PS3s.
