Digital camera reviews of Toshiba DR410 1080p Upconverting Tunerless DVD Recorder

Digital camera Review: Defective S Video port
Summary: 2 Stars

I was going to buy 2 of these. Bought one, S-Video port was bad. I'll try another brand.

Digital camera Review: Definitely Worth The Money
Summary: 4 Stars

This product is definitely well worth the money. I'm a semi-professional editor and needed a dvd-recorder that was not only competent but also efficient and easily transferable. After seeing this one in the store for $120 and reading the specifications on the box I was hesitant to say the least. However, after unbox and hooking it up (a no brainer for any technically inclined person) I was pleasantly surprised at the finalized results.

I was able to seemlessly transfer the recorded copy over to my make and burn the result in Popcorn and/or Wondershare. Definitely worth the bill.

Digital camera Review: Does The Job
Summary: 5 Stars

I personally purchased this player so that I could transfer a handful of vhs videos that have no dvd release, as well as some home recordings. For my needs, and what I wanted it to do, this machine has worked wonderfully.

The initial hookup to get playback was simple enough, although I had to 'play' with my connections for a while in order to get the signal going in the right direction for dvd recording off the vcr (no fault of the machine, I just have to many devices wired and rigged through my television).

Once I mastered the hookup and the settings (again, simple enough - if I can do it it's a good bet that a well behaved chimpanzee could do it), the transfer results were fantastic. My television, A DVD player (not blue-ray mind you), An original Xbox, and an older model vcr running through two rf-modulators. This system plays and records fine for me.

Oh, and my cable line is direct, no set top box or anything like that. This unit was also purchased used from Amazon. For me it does the job and was a great buy.

Digital camera Review: Does not play DivX
Summary: 3 Stars

Though I didn't see it mentioned specifically, I assumed that since DR400 played DivX, so would this model. I have tried all kinds of DivX recordings, but DR410 cannot play them.

Having said that, the actual DVD recording works very well, it's very easy and the recording quality is good. Have not had a chance to test the upconversion quality.

To summarize, I needed a DVD recorder, and since my older DVD player did not play DivX, was also hoping to kill another bird with the same stone, and was unsuccessful. If it played DivX, this would likely have been a raving 5-star review, it was just too big of a bummer.

Digital camera Review: Easiest DVD Recorder
Summary: 4 Stars

I HAd to buy this because somone I give DVD's to said the Samsung 357
was giving errors.
I was not so sure, but for the price of one of these as a refurb, I cured my error problems ( probably a tired laser).
This recorder offers limited speed options and in video mode (-R)
makes a really plain-jane DVD ( especially compared to the Samsung menus)
unless you use +R ad edit it.
But it is the easiest one I have used ( Pioneer Samsung Phillips) to just insert
a DVD and press "record".
At the end you just name it and finalize. Really very easy to do. A good value.
