Digital camera reviews of Toshiba DR410 1080p Upconverting Tunerless DVD Recorder

Digital camera Review: Easy to set up and use
Summary: 5 Stars

I found that the DVR was easy to set up and to use. It was easy enough I pretty much didn't even need the manual, except for a few things. It plays DVD's well and the DVD I recorded was easy to do and looked good when I viewed it in another DVR just for review.

Digital camera Review: Excellent Bargain
Summary: 5 Stars

At $90 ($110 at Best Buy), this is the cheapest, most affordable DVD-Recorder you'll find. It's a great bargain and does the job well. But it took me some time to figure out how to set it up.

First, it ships with only 1 RCA audio/video cable (red/white/yellow), but you'll need 2 (two) of those to make everything work. I had to purchase another triple-RCA cable like that from Radio Shack, because one cable connects it to your receiver box, and the other connects it to the TV. Both of these are required. I'm not sure why they only included one in the box.

Second, if your TV has a "TV/Video" mode switch, you'll have to set it to "Video." I was wondering why I wasn't seeing any menus on the screen when pressing buttons, that's because they'll only show up in the Video mode of the TV set.

Finally, if you want to have DVDs that are playable on your PC, you should ONLY use DVD+R/RW (as opposed DVD-R/RW). The disk drives on most computers only read the "plus" format (+R/RW). This unit can record in all formats, but the -R/RW just won't work with most other playback systems.

Otherwise, I'm quite pleased with the system, it can be programmed to record "on schedule" as needed (provided the clock settings are right) and my DVD+Rs play well on my PC.

Digital camera Review: Finally
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my 3rd Toshiba dvd recorder no vhs, the other two were vhs/dvd recorders.
first the manual is thick and all in Engish and fairly complete. The other two had problems with timer control they were both Toshiba.
This was the easiest hookup I ever did. HDMI to TV and input from the Toshiba and output to new HD box, all in 1080P.
I was happy that I didn't have to go searching for L1, the machime automatically set it. the entire hookup was no more than 2 minutes. Just got a new Camcorder and can't wait to start using the two. I can't find anything wrong with this one. The price was really low at Best Buy. Thanks for looking.

Digital camera Review: Good Machine
Summary: 4 Stars

I have yet to explore all the options that it has. My biggest disappointment was the chapter settings didn't carry over to other players, but I'm not convinced it wasn't in my set-up yet. I haven't gotten too far into recording with it at this point, but I haven't had some of the issues that a friends dvr has had like not playing on other players at all, or locking up half way through the recording. There's more extra features to this than I had expected and I'm looking forward to what I might be able to accomplish with them.

Digital camera Review: Good Results
Summary: 4 Stars

This recorder is very low cost and does a good job. It does not have component inputs which would be a welcome way to get signal in but it has S-Video and RCA. It was somewhat confusing to set up for me with my satellite box but the Toshiba tech support people are very helpful and that's a really good resoource. I've used it for over 100 hours of recorded transfers from my DVR and it worked well every time.
