Its very easy to dub from vhs to dvd. You can select recording mode for the dvd from fitting in one to 8 hours of video on one disc albeit with loss of quality. Then you just press one button on the remote labeled dubbing and away you go with your conversion.
You can also record tv shows onto the dvd. The instruction manual is very easy to use and explains everything. Love the product. All burns have been consistently good with no problems. Using DVD+R disks namebrand.
Its exactly what I have been looking for to convert vhs tapes to dvd.
Get it while available or another comparable newer Toshiba model.

After a month of frustration with a similarly priced unit that was a major name brand, we returned that unit and bought this Toshiba model instead. The other unit was constantly making DVD's from old home VHS movies and the audio would be out of sync. We tried seven different movies and five different DVD recordable disc types. No matter what, when the DVDs came out, the people's mouths would move and the audio would come across two to three seconds later!
As stated, this unit is a huge improvement over the other previous unit we owned/returned. If you're looking to copy VHS to DVD on a budget, this is the model for you. The unit features a full set of outputs (HDMI/Component/S-Video/RCA) and has 1080p upconversion when watching DVDs.
The only downsides to this unit are the somewhat funky remote and the overall layout/complexity to the user manual, I feel that the manual could have been much easier to understand with a bit better organization and not so much crammed on every page.

Item worked just fine... easy hookup. Good for cable/sats as the unit hase no built in tuner.
Just a note, watch hookup as only analog output work with BOTH VHS and DVD thru the supplied RCA cables, though there are higher quality outputs for just DVD.(must buy other cables for s-video or HDMI)

Was looking to copy all my VHS tapes to DVD. Bought this item because of reviews and was glad I did. This unit hook-up was easy. Following a little time reading the manual and makeing a test DVD, I was ready to start making DVD copies. This unit does a wonderful job.
