Digital camera Review: "Second time is the charm..."

Despite the very "mixed" reviews posted here I decided to try the DVR620 because of its desirable features, its price and because of the great service given by previous Toshiba electronics. The DVR620 functioned perfectly in every way except for a fatal flaw: my old VHS tapes would not play (track) on the VHS drive. In a series of chats with the tech folks at Toshiba customer support we eliminated potential reasons for the problem including copy-protection issues (mostly my taping has been off-the-air broadcasts), degraded tapes (even my tapes from late 1979 play just fine on another player) and even dirty "heads" on the new machine ("...but how can they be dirty already?" I ask; "It could have been warehoused for a year and our boxes are not dust proof", was the answer). None of the proposed solutions worked so I returned the unit to Amazon for a replacement, which was promptly dispatched. The DVR620 does many complex operations so I find it essential to keep the manual handy while navigating the very busy remote. So far the second unit has performed so flawlessly that I no longer keep my fingers crossed.
