Digital camera reviews of Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD Player

Digital camera Review: Amazing Picture, Amazing Sound
Summary: 5 Stars

This player is amazing, I purchased 2 of these players, one for my livingroom and the other for my bedroom. I have one hooked up to a 480p front projector (Infocus IN72) and the difference in color, contrast and sharpness is amazing. Even on a 480p projector, you can see a huge difference. Also the audio us much louder than my last upconverting DVD player.

I also have this hooked up to a Mitsubishi HD1000U (720p) front projector and it looks way better than the Infocus 480p projector (not that the Infocus isn't amazing in itself). The upconversion is also another strong point to the HD-A2. In my mind, the HD war is over and HD DVD is the winner. Well actually I'm the winner.

Digital camera Review: Amazing picture quality, but troublesome
Summary: 4 Stars

When everything works, this machine makes a gorgeous image on my Sony crt hdtv. It is slower to start and load than a standard dvd player. Updating the operating system is very inconvenient and time-consuming. The 5 'free' hd-dvd movies in the special offer took over 3 months to arrive and they didn't send all the movies I ordered, but made a substitute without explanation. Rented hd-dvd's are frequently flawed and won't play - the hd-dvd's seem to be more fragile than standard dvd's. Standard dvd's look very much better played on the Toshiba than they look when played on the same hdtv using a standard dvd player.

Digital camera Review: Amazing product!
Summary: 5 Stars

This HD DVD player is simply amazing. HD DVDs look wonderful and it does a beautiful job of upscaling standard definition DVDs. It has an ethernet port to connect to the internet so that you can update to the latest firmware with just the press of a button and it also supports online content on HD DVDs. There are tons of interactive goodies on my Heroes Season 1 HD DVDs that Blu-ray is not yet capable of.

With the recent announcement that Paramount and Dreamworks are HD DVD only now, HD DVD is here to stay. So stop waiting around on the sidelines for a winner and enjoy the HD experience now! This player is much cheaper than anything Blu-ray has to offer and it is well worth the price. Ignore the few negative reviews on this player. They are by childish blu-ray supporters.

Digital camera Review: Amazing quality
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this model based on reviews here at amazon and on Ain't it Cool. Not only was it a great price, but the quality is amazing. From what i've read, all of the "issues and bugs" have been fixed from the first gen of this player. The video quality is the best i've ever seen. Sound is amazing and the upconversion is even better than my previous dvd player for older dvds.

The two issues i have with the player are as follows.
1. Start up times are a bit long. If you're used to hitting the power button and then eject to put a disk in, you're in for a wait. It takes upwards of 30 seconds from power up for any responses to occur from the player. I don't know why it takes this long to power up, but it does. You'll get used to it even if you don't like it.
2. Firmware upgrades are a bit tedius. Just plugging in your RJ45 cable isn't all it takes to upgrade. You've got to find the proper menu and then enter in network information. I never could get the player to recognize my network, so i downloaded the firmware patch, burned it to a disk (this took four tries=four disks) and upgraded.

Aside from the two above, very small issues, i love this player. I purchased the Matrix trilogy with the player and i've never seen it look better. Another top quality disk to watch is BBC's Planet Earth. The player and disk will make you sit in awe at the world we live in.

Menus are easy to navigate and the extra options that a HD player gives over normal dvd players is a great bonus.

Digital camera Review: Amazing.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been debating on getting an HD DVD player for a few months now. I did all my research and decided to get the Toshiba HD-A2. I just got this bad boy in the mail today. I just hooked it up and watched "The Departed". The picture and sound are AMAZING!

I can't wait to add more HD DVDs to my collection. If you are looking for an awesome HD DVD player that preforms to a "T", then this is the right choice for you!
