Digital camera reviews of Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD Player

Digital camera Review: Awesome player!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an awesome HD player and in my opinion it works very well! I have mine connected to my Mitsubishi 62" DLP projection TV via a Monster HDMI cord and the picture quality in 720p is outstanding. It looks much better than playing movies on my PS3. It also does a wonderful job upconverting old DVD's to near HD quality. I watched Episode III last night and was amazed at the picture and sound quality. I have had no problems with this player what so ever. Do some reserch before you buy it, but you should be more than pleased with it's performance.

Digital camera Review: Awesome resolution

For those holding out for 1080p, the 1080i output on this is good enough. The unit takes unbearably long in booting up. Almost 15 full seconds before you can even ask it to eject the disc holder. functions on the utilitarian remote are good and direct. It does say that some new disc require upgrades by putting it on an internet enabled network, but the free movies that come with this unit work just fine. Unit looks sleek and the controls on the unit are neatly hidden by the fold down panel. I like that the power button has two colors. red when it's off, and blue when it's on. Easy to make sure that I haven't left the unit on. The #'s on the lcd portion of the info screen are quite tall and easy to read from a distance also.

Old DVD's work just fine, but the new resolution is just amazing with HD-DVD's. I think they'll be putting out both types of DVD's. I don't think it'll be a Beta vs VHS thing withe blu-ray and hd-dvd's. I've put my $ on HD-DVD's for now. make sure your tv or projector can handle this resolution or you're just wasting a lot of $.

This is not really an early adoption situation now. It has now been proved that HD-DVD is here to stay, and I plunged into this as soon as I saw the price at around $450.00. The experience of watching HD-DVD movies on this player/61 inch High Def TV is awesome to say the least. Minor issues with HD-A1 have been ironed out apparently. I could have waited for a few more months for the prices to drop, but I guess the experience of watching movies with this equipment is totally worth every penny! Love this player...

This Christmas I treated myself to A 46" Samsung LN-S4695D LCD flat screen with 1080p and this HD-DVD player. The Picture is unbelievable!!!It also Plays all my burned DVD-R Movies and I can definitely tell the upgrade quality. They almost look HD also. Not quite, but they are better than on a normal dvd Player. A reasonalble price also.
You wont be disappointed!!!!!

Digital camera Review: Awesome, Classic 1080i HD-DVD Player
Summary: 4 Stars

I own the XBOX 360 HD-DVD add on, and have continued to support the dimestore beauty of HD-DVD since the format became obsolete. Sadly, my XBOX 360 HD unit was really temperamental with several of my HD-DVDs, and simply would not play any copies of the movie 300 in high def. I took a chance buying this Toshiba unit and worried about the limitations of the 1080i ceiling vs. the 1080p available from other units and the 360 HD add-on. Within minutes, my concerns had vanished. This unit plays all of my HD-DVDs without issue, and does a fine job of upconverting older material via HDMI. I have a 42 inch, 1080p LCD TV, and 1080i looks fantastic with HD-DVDs. Image sharpness is excellent, color saturation is fantastic (and can be expanded in the setup menu) and I don't notice any macroblocking or TV handshake issues with the player. Plus, you can set the black level to either 0 IRE or 7.5 IRE, depending on your preference. The unit is a little slow when it comes to reading media, but response times are very acceptable. The cooling fan is barely noticeable. Slow motion and pause-step advance are nice touches, too, and you can charge 2 USB items with the expansion ports on the front of the unit. If I had any gripes, I would note that 720p output looks noticeably soft, in my opinion. Also, when switching back and forth between HDMI sources, I occasionally notice a brief flickering image when I return to the Toshiba, but once the player stops flickering and locks onto the source image (takes about 2 seconds), I'm back in business watching HD. Highly recommended; I'll never go back to my 360 HD player again.
